This Forum is not USA
« on: March 26, 2003, 10:35:31 AM »
Ladies and gentlemen,

all of you remember the days when the political and military pressure against Iraq has been increased.
Up to that moment this forum has been used by certain persons to build up another borderline.
Even in the gamechat.
Somehow, some guys forgot that this is a game.
More than one time i felt rage after reading statements in this forum or gamechat.
Some of our (american?) friends lost control over themselves and started a campaign of hate, incrimination and offence against germany and french.Others gave them payback....and the war was on.

In this kind of atmosphere,it is pretty easy to think :'this USA is brutal, insulting and sometimes  acting on a shocking primitive level of intellegence.'

But this is NOT USA.
This is only a few handfull of guys who are brutal, insulting and sometimes acting on a shocking primitive level of intellegence.

So i want to say hello to my gentle american friends in the game.
Thank you for having fun.And thank you for NOT debating political stuff.

Regards,
Ecke

Because this IS the forum for debating that "political stuff".

Not in the game on CH1, because people play games to escape from daily life.

Not in the other Forums here, because those have relatively limited scope and should be used to discuss the appropriate aspects of the game.

But here, in the O-Club, off topic discussions are the focus. The name isn't chosen by chance. You come here, away from the aspects of AH, to comingle with your fellow players and talk about whatever you like. There are arguments and agreements, jokes and "war stories".

That being said, it is not a place where all behavior is allowed or acceptable.

There's no excuse for the ad hominem attacks that have taken place....... by people from all spectrums and countries..... and there's really no excuse for abominable manners.

I'm not in the least distressed that HT and Skuzzy have cleaned this place up a bit.

But the idea that we SHOULD NOT discuss "political stuff" here is a total "non-starter". We interact in the game and these issues are real to all of us. And this is, by definition, the best place in the AH "world" to discuss those issues amongst ourselves.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Toad, the general idea of the 'off-topic' forum is great and works pretty well.

But this 'war and politics' is hitting nerves with a lot of people here who can get the news from CNN just fine, thank you.

When you have a topic as hot as a war such as this, pop up a new forum for it. That way you still allow the 'devotees' to post and still let the ones that do not come here to read the news or to listen political debate to stay away from those topics.

They could delete the 'WAR FORUM' right after the smoke clears.

Have respect for those of us not interested in this slop.

If your not interested, do not read the threads. Simple as that.

This is the O'Club...off topic.

You don't see many Aces High posts in here. Thats what the general forum is for.

The O'club is a place for people who share a similar hobby to come and express their thoughts, gain insight, and generally have fun.

Sometime the real world sticks it's head in here, and as of late, that is the bulk of the threads, because that is what's on every one's minds.

Until HTC says "No more War threads", we'll continue.

On a different note, you will find much more intelligent and friendly conversation here that on Yahoo News BBS.

You want to see outright slander, racism, sexism, and disgusting behavior? Go over there for 5 minutes. That's all I could take. This place is the Vatican compared to that BBS.

I enjoy the debates. I appreciate the feedback. I even get into the occasional flame war. It's all good here.

No one forces any of you to read the "political" threads. You enter them of your own free will. No one snuck into your house and started screaming a political diatribe at you.

Channel 1 is different in that the only way not to get bombarded with the talk of idiots is to squelch the whole channel which also denies you the ability to participate on channel 1 in those discussions you may be inclined to. Its an all or nothing thing.

On this forum and on this bbs its not hard to identify the types of posts certain individuals make and each thread is titled. If you read the title and dont like it, then dont enter and read it. If you dont care for the types of posts made by certain individuals you can
  • Not Read threads by that individual
  • Put that individual on your ignore list

No one makes you read anything on this board, you enter each thread and each discussion of your own free will. Most of the posters and readers of this board are American and they wont "stop being" Americans because other folks may get upset.

What...would having to click on 'War and Political Forum' be too much for you?

As far as what you said about people speaking thier minds and the real world sneaking in sometimes....how is adding a forum just for 'War and Politics' going to hinder anyones chance to speak thier mind?

Open forums are fine...but I don't click 'The O'Club' just to read CNN headlines and to end up having to chase good threads back 6 pages just to find something I saw here just two hours ago that I liked.

Right now, things would work more smoothly with a forum deicated to the war.

No....I end up reading this crap because the thread I wanted to re-read is forty pages back and I do not want to hunt it down and waste my time. So I settle for the 'least of two evils'.

If all you people can think to talk about is war and politics, go straight down the hall, and take a right, now a left, and you'll find a 'Life'.

Take it home.

...or click on the 'War and Politics' forum and leave us sane people to enjoy our day.

Thanks

You do know about the "Subscribe to this thread" option, right?

Subscribe to the ones you like, click the "user cp" button and view your subscribed threads.

Voila, you're own personal O-Club, with only the topics YOU desire displayed. Filtered exactly as you desire.

A quick scan every now and then to pick new threads to subscribe to and you're all set.

*laughs*

Too funny....

Talking about the single biggest news story of the past 2 years is insane?  If we discuss our views, hopes, fears, and what not, we have no life?

Did you enjoy the squirrel fishing thread?

Squelch, I completely disagree, and take offense to your comments about people who wish to discuss current events. Now, normally, this would be the opening salvo in a flame war, but this being the kinder, gentler O' Club, I'm simply going to say, I disagree, and find your comments insulting.

See, Skuzzy...I can play nice!

Oh, another one of these.

Ecke is obviously a Liberal.  :D

He is seemingly unable to stop himself from reading these threads which anger him.  Its not his fault, I blame society.  I think we should all make up for his shortcommings of will power and stop posting off topic threads in the off topic forum, its only for the best.

Now, as a conservative, my solution is really simple.

Dont read the political stuff.

Things work fine now.

You just registered to the board 6 days ago, what thread is 40 pages back?

Like toad said you can subcribe to any thread you wont.

If you dont like it dont read it.

And it would seem to me your the one with "life" problems if you cant handle what folks post on an internet bbs.

Take your own advice.

You don't want that. And as long as the rest of your post towards me remain calm, I will show you the same respect.

As for you taking offense...I apologize. I was out-of-line, thanks for calling me on it.
