Fscott, doesn't look that way on my computer.  Maybe your video card?

Edit: And/or settings?

Rip, ya wanna post a screenshot?  Cos clouds look exactly the same as Fscott's pic on my PC too......

that blue window out of the clouds is just plain weird.

I can tell by the white dots half way to the horizon that you're view is abbreviated and not set to "full".

I can't right now since I have no CPU (sold the 550 today, 800 comes tomorrow), however, this picture below is what my clouds look like on my FE : (Note-- no 'blockiness'...all very smooth transitions)

Good point Westy! I'll bet that 'Blockiness' does disappear when you use full resolution (F1)

Westy, would you please explain the difference? Is this the F1 or F2 setting I've heard of before? I've never quite understood how that works, please explain.

banana, SHIFT F1, F2 and F3 will give you a variance of resolution, F1 being highest, F3 being lowest, to compensate for slower cards/CPU's.

edit: ACES HIGH DEFAULTS TO F2 RES!!  If you want the max. resolution, you must manually use SHIFT F1 when you log on.

Thanks Ripsnort. That's exaclty what 1/2 the problem is IMO.
I also saw someone write that HiTech wasn't done playing around with this one version of the clouds that AH has.

Uhm, that's not resolution that the shift function keys do.. that's terrain drawing. The only difference it does is make the terrain further out have a higher polygon count. Has nothing to do with the clouds, just how far out the terrain draws.

Now, on my system the clouds transition very smoothly... I think it just *may* have something to do with the fact I run in 32bit. (note the sarcasm)

fscott screenshot looks like he was under the clouds more where Rip's looks like he was on the edge of the front. Don't see a problem with either myself. Glad AH took the time and energy to address the issue. Now we need rain to running off the windscreen and make locating icons almost impossible

Um....Rip.

In your pic, look just up and left of where Griz is.......that block right there.  There's the blockiness we're talking about (bloody hell!  I'm actually agreeing with Fscott!).

When ya get yr new chip......fly towards a cloud bank and look around with the pan view......a big blue square will be in the centre of your view, always, until you're well within the cloud bank.

You get real Fscott...I simply inferred that the possibility existed that it was a net problem. You invented your own interpretation.

BTW it's a concept called benefit of the doubt, beyond the grasp of a true whiner.

Let me clarify that its not my pic, but similiar to what I see.

Good to know this isn't a 'final' version of the clouds.
