Not trying to be a jerk, but...
« on: March 30, 2001, 02:08:00 AM »
First, I really don't care for the background cloud layer. I can just hear the WB crowd laughing at us.

Second, I have had 5 ctd's tonite with no more than an hour's worth of flying. This is ridiculous. HT please give us patch 1 again.

Third, what's the deal with all the new "imaginative" squad names like the joker shown above? Have I started something that cannot be stopped?

Well... You are being a jerk. Why would the WB crowd be laughing? Because they have a beta sim with crappy looking planes, poor flight models and a huge download? Maybe it's those ungodly tracers they have. So what if the clouds over there are a little better looking.

The clouds look fine when you are in them, over them or under them. It's just a little blocky whre it transitions. Give it time, I am sure HTC will make it look prettier. Right now, the gameplay issues are the fish I would like to see them fry.

Well, we have a FAF G-2 with correct historical markings.  Something that the WB players will never have.

Give me a bloody break.  fscott, who once had a squad named "The Nightly News with Tom Brokaw", is now complaining about stupid squad names?

WarBirds used to have a FAF with markings back in version 2.01 I think.  Don't know why it was removed.

The tracer effects in WBIII are placeholder effects, so I wouldn't compare them to anything.  The WB III plane models are beautiful, not crappy.  What are you looking at?

The patch 2 cloud effects are, well, better than before.   They're getting closer.  The first release definitely had a alpha look to it, and this one looks to be more beta-like.  Still not there yet, but much closer.

AH still has a LOT of features over WB (solid connex being one most take for granted here), and probably has 6 months or more of development time before we can really make valid comparisons and judgements.
It'll really get interesting this summer, with WB III out and WWII Online available.  Personally, I think AH will be alright - just keep cranking out the late-war planes and vehicles no one else has.  Add landing craft and seaplanes, air-sea rescue and nightfighters.  There are a lot of ways AH can stay ahead of WBs, even if WBIII is better graphically.  Relax and enjoy the competition - we're the ones that benefit.

I remember the WBs crowd bashing AH when it first came out too, and that was equally unfair.

I climbed up into the cloud at 36 last night in a jug. I thought the lighting arround the edge of the cloud as looked at from under the cloud was excellent. I could see the shadow of the cloud approaching the airfield. I climbed out of the top of the cloud and was delighted to break into the big open blue sky. I cruised above the cloud towards 43 looking for the contact that was making a bar in the area. I passed again over the edge of the cloud formation and was again pleased with the look of the transition. Very cool.
I saw a dot below the cloud following me out.
Turned arround just as the con revealed itself to be an Ardo heading towards me but considerably lower. I punched the tank on my Jug 30 and droped the nose to try to get a shot.Back into the murk as I moved towards the cons 6 I missjudged his speed and blew past him diving. Then I pulled up and missed him again on the climb. I got on his rear quarter at about 600 and gave him a long shot. Just as he lit up from the direct sun. Looked increadable and then I could see him clearly and then I was in the sun too.
I never caught him but he had to eject his eggs and head home.
We talked on channel 1 and he mentioned that he loved the new clouds as well.
When you first see them at the distance they still look a little cheesy but anywhere near them they look great.
I was near the edge of a formation later and could see white flashes That looked alot like lightning in a cloud. could have been a graphic anomoly though. I never saw it again...
I like the clouds!

Not dis'ing WB's but their clouds remind me of EAW...

I much prefer AH clouds to dogfight in, some real gut-wrenching sorties in them!

fscott - perhaps you and RAM could form a squad called:

"I have a very big mouth. And everyone knows it."

Cloud fighting was intense and I actually was able to fly thru them and not have problems.  Color blindness and all.  The only thing that made me mad was the DC's, but that will be fixed I am sure they will get on it asap, they have on everything else.  Ligthning was awesome kept looking back and seeing flashes and wondered WTF was that?  Scott you can name your squad of 2 whatever you want to, but in a given sense how old are you?  To be honest I would be embarrassed to change the squad name every day.  And they say class clowns don't succeed in life.

It's amazing that everyone seems to be dodging the issue. No one even remarks about the screenshot and the very wierd blocky cloud layer looks like a picture tube.

Then everyone starts ranting how AH is so much better than WB. Not even my original point.  It is in reference to the WB3 clouds. They are better, much better, wasn't even comparing WB to AH, just the cloud effect.

Then about the ctd's.  One guy blames this on the internet? LOL, get real fella, Something in the patch is causing the CTD's and it ain't the "internet".

Finally, it is also amazing that some of you can't understand a simple joke about squad names.  I am simply taking a "serious" thing like a squad name, which it seems like some will almost literally die for, and making fun of it. Relax.
