The peacetime helo loss rate is pretty impressive all by itself.

Add a little AA fire to that and it probably does seem like something unusual.

we used to have to go recover as many as 1 a day.. just in our lil area of responsibility. and those were recoverable airframes.

factored against the numbers sortied, heavy ongoing engagement against hostile targets and the enviornment, particularly sand blowback coupled with night ops, losses are pretty low.

more intresting is the utter absence of fixed wing losses to enemy fire...

Dunno... IMO we've been seeing way more Helo's bounce due to pilot/mech failure than AA over the last year or so than normal.  I would agree that something seem's just not right but it's not limited to any particular airframe.

Good point Tumor,

However it’s not like they’re landing on a concrete pad at the base. I’m impressed with their record dealing with all the loose FOD.
