OK, I am thinking about buying a DVD burner, and am looking for some recommendations.

What capabilities do I want? Well, I guess two primary capabilities. Take a DVD and convert it onto something that could be read on regular CD-ROM (Divx type stuff) ... and of course burn divx type stuff I have onto DVD-ROM.

I dont know anything about the hardware out there, and any guidance would be welcomed, especially about what I should expect to pay for a solid product.

It would also be nice if the the burner had good CD-burner capabilities, as my CD burner is 8/4/32, a little outdated nowadays.

Ahhh, good idea. I'll go post there as well.

OU played terrible, absolutely terrible!! I've never seen a team so confused by a 2-3 zone in my life!!

when I saw Okla and Syr on the screen on tuning in, I thot Oklahoma was paired against Syria.  They'd be minimum 20-30 point favorites in *that* game.  Better luck in the pairing next year hehe :)

I was talking with a clerk at Circuit City about the DVD burners and he said they have a lot of open box models on sale.  I asked why and he said people "borrow" them for a weekend and then return them, making me think people are buying them, renting a bunch of DVDs at video stores, burning the movies and then returning the machines.  I didn't buy one, but you might be able to find some good deals if you look around.

Mind you, this is purely a hypothetical question, but inquiring minds want to know...  I thought the disks were protected against this unauthorized practice?

I have no clue.  That's what the guy insinuated, or maybe I mistook him.  Anyway, the point was people were buying these DVD burners and returning them after a few days 'cause they are recording things.  And thus, they are priced around $600 down from $800.  I was tempted, but held off.

Aknimitz,I highly recommend the Lite-On CD burners.

They have the "burn-proof" technology licensed by Plextor,and are much less expensive.

My last two(an 8x drive,now a 32x)have been Lite-On's.

This is where I bought them both,here in Columbus.

The add doesn't say Lite-on,but I'll bet they are.You can call and ask if need be.
