I heard that too. But dont you think the fact that F15s have enough power to fly without wings anyway might have some effect on this? Plus the pilot specificaly said that he used afterburner to continue flying when the lack of lift caused a spin. I hear F15s can climb vertically at mach 1. As an off note does the A4 have automatic ejection, or is this an IAF modification. Cuz I read this story of an IAF A4 that took a birdstrike in the canopy and the pilot said he was just flying along and then he woke up in the hospital. They found bird parts in his helmet and suit.

That F-15 was flying off of lift from the fuselage, the wing "shoulder" where the wing blends into the wing root, and the horizontal stab on that side.  In modern fighters, the stabs often move independently to assist roll, so the stab on that side was probably deflected up to provide most of the lift on that side.  

Pretty amazing IMHO.

Someone used this story in a book I read.  Seems like it may have been a Richard Herman Jr novel.

They key note is that he had to keep it over 260 knots.  Fly anything fast enough and it will figure out a way to generate lift.
