He allowed himself to be used a propaganda mouthpiece rof the iraqi military, thays why he got fired. If he had said the same things stateside in some new york studio it would have been fine - but saying them while being interviewd by an iraq military offical was wrong.

He worked for NBC.  NBC relies on consumers.  He pissed off the consumers.  NBC lost consumers.  NBC lost earning power.  Arnett lost a job.

Rumor rag picked him up.

quite fitting, really.

Guess what...... unpopular TV shows get cancelled too.

Arnett made himself unpopular by using his "free speech".

People watching used their "free speech" to NBC HQ.

NBC made a good business decision, just like canceling an unpopular TV show.

Free speech means people are free to disagree with you after you've done something assinine.

They're also free to choose where to spend their money... or viewing time.

Lots of you guys haven't really figured out this "free speech" thing have you?

You can say what you want. Doesn't mean everyone else will not comment or react to that.

Naso,
NBC is owned by General Electric.

It is hardly a government conspiracy.

GE relies heavily on it's consumer products divisions, and even more so on its GE Capital finance division.  It will NOT tolerate a stupid act like Arnett's to threaten it's market share position with it's customers.

Plus, maybe the head of GE happens to feel differently than Arnett does.  It is his right to fire him.

I really believe it to be that simple.

Coupled with the fact that as soon as Arnett got hired by the Mirror, he recanted his apology.  I'm not sure Arnett has any principles he would stand behind.  Either he thinks he made a mistake or he doesn't.  Either way, doesn't matter to me, but at least be consistent.

Couple points here. arnett was supposed to report the news. He is not suposed to "air his feelings". He is supposed to find information and tell what he found out. He is not going to find information about coalition military plans in Baghdad. He is not going to find information about coalition military operations by interviewing an iraqi general / diplomat etc. on the show. He is not supposed to encourqage the enemy or give aid to them.

All reporters are enjoined from providing on the air military information to the enemy of actual military plans under way to include troop movements and operational orders (plan of battle) until AFTER the action is over. Doing otherwise provides the enemy with the information they would have to send a spy to find out. That is under the umbrella of treason. That is why rivera was escorted out of iraq yesterday and fired. He broadcast the actual plan prior to the operation and included a map and troop unit identification as well as the time span.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Are you implying that GE is now run by this administration?

Or is that just a red-herring?

Here's a news flash.  All mega-corps get preferential treatment from all Admins....Democrat and Republican.

No you idiot, the tax cut was to pay the airliness off for the 4 planes the CIA used in the 911 attacks.  Jeez and you think people get that straight after all this time. Hell Rip are you sure the extra shiny side is facing out on your tinfoil hat?
