Howdy,
Pyro is going to release some official screenshots later today, but I wanna beat him to the punch, so I thought I'd share some impressions about Aces High 2.
MISSILES AWAY!
It rocks! There are a couple of tiny graphics glitches, but the new game is absolutely incredible! They've added air-to-air missiles (both radar and infrared) and those are going to totally change the flavor of the game.
Here's a screenshot from the F-86:
First of all, this plane is definately my new favorite. This thing can BOOK across the skys, and with the new perked JATO option, you can be at 20k in less then a minute now.
I wasn't sure about the air-to-air missiles, but Hitech told me that the Germans had developed some thing that even though they didn't make it into wide production, did exist in 1945, so the luftwaffe planes have this sort of german sidewinder (the Superkarateaffe-Todesauto) that's really a pain in the ass, pardon the pun. If you're on a bomber, you can buy perked air to air missiles that can be fired from the gunners position too, so bye bye intercepts, hello Berlin!
I really like the new planes. I already mentioned the F-86, but there's also the Mig-15, the Super Me-262 (it's an Me-262 with afterburners, yee haw!) and the Gotha Ho-229 flying wing.
Here I am about to shoot down one of the other testers in my Gotha:
The atom bomb is definately going to be tricky for gameplay, and I'm not sure I agree with the decision to make it free, but boy howdy, you'd better be far away when that baby goes off. I flattened both an airbase AND its city with one bomb, boo-ya!
Here's the new Sanger Silverbird. It's the german sub-orbital bomber that can deliver a Heisenberg Special to any base on the map in less then 5 minutes:
I know i'll probably get in trouble for spilling the beans, but I can't help it. Aces High 2 is going to kick butt. There's nothing quite like the re-assuring growl tone in your headset of getting a missile lock on of a B-17, then plastering him from 10 miles away. And when cruising at 150k feet with a Sanger Silverbird, you can drop your atomic warhead and be fifty miles away before it goes off, and that, my friends, is cool.
