Saburo Sakai would be ashamed!
« on: October 20, 2000, 09:57:00 AM »
I hope to high heaven that Mr. Sakai isn't watching over us right now.  I've spent this last week flying the skies of AH and what do I see?  F4U's, Spit's, NiK2's, and the occasional P51 and 190.  And how many episodes did I get to see the beloved Zeke? What maybe 2 or 3 times the entire week!  And even then the pilot did not have the skills needed to push this plane to it's limits. Outrage!

What a sad day. The Zeke, possibly the best fighter in the game, seems often to be overlooked for the flashier, more colorful dweebmobiles.  Friends, Mr. Sakai spent his entire piloting career in the Zeke, and occasionally the later war fighters, but he said he would always prefer the Zeke. I think you all should think twice before grabbing your same old crutch.

Just last night a 190 pilot spent his entire ammo load trying to ping me once in my lowly Zeke.  B&Z all the way baby, not one ping.  Then he gets on the con and yells at me for jerking the stick! He stated that my Zeke was doing "unrealistic maneuvers" which no real Zeke could do!  I was polite and advised him that he should learn to fly the Zeke before he accuses me of spiking the stick!

Without a doubt my friends, in the hands of an uber pilot, the Zeke is the best fighter of the game. Give Mr. Sakai some respect!

Vote for LUZON terrain in the VOTE FOR LUZON TERRAIN thread, then we'll have an arena where we can employ Pacific A/C.

Well, I have been flying the Zeke for the last week or so.  I love it.  I think people are afraid they are gonna get whacked to easy in it since it is a flying tinderbox.  I have more fun in it than any other plane right now (though I will ditch it when the F6F arrives - that is my fav plane of all time).  I don't think my ratio in it is all that great.  I have a nasty habit of flying until I either: a) run out of fuel, b) jump into a swarm of 4 or 5 cons and their snapshots kill me, c) doing something stupid(i.e. strafing acks in it or flying through hangars when there are Osties about).

I think people don't like the weaknesses it has compared to the other planes (they are some pretty big weaknesses too).  It is slow, can't dive too well, and is very fragile.  It all adds up to a sure death if you don't use its strengths to the fullest.

Oh well, I will just continue flying it and having fun killin Spits, Nikis and Hogs!

Zeke is definately something you use in a furball, and not 'lone wolfing'.

Well, having had the chance to fly one after the war, Sakai-san came to the conclusion that the Pony was his favorite plane, and the Zero took a back seat at #2. I read that in what I believe was his last interview.

Your point, tho, is well taken. AH seems to have originated from a ueberplane point of view, and although it has fanned out to include some mid war mounts (most notably German iron), it is still pretty much beholden to late war stuff, and unrepresentative oddities like 4-cannon Corsairs, Ostwinds and Georges.

I really hope this gets addressed in the future.

Stiggy, Stiggy, Stiggy

There were 1,403 N1K "Georges" built and every single one of them was equipped with 4 x 20mm cannons, and some of them also had additional MG's as well.

FYI 1,400 is the approximate equivalent to the total production of Fw190D9's and Me109K4's.

Would you like to discuss "unrepresentative oddities" further?

I like flying the Zeke, but the cockpit art kills my frame rate.  No Zekes for me.

Vermillion, the Luftwaffe after D-Day is an unrepresentative oddity if you apply Stigler's standards in a balanced manner...

I love the Zeke. Course you're dog-chow to just about any higher alt enemy aircraft or any decent duo working together.

p.s. "I really hope this gets addressed in the future." Why Stiglr?  You're unabashed distaste for AH has been all too obvious here and at AGW. Why would you care? Just why are you here?

I saw a Zero today. Avoided his first HO, when I came blazing down from 15K, but missed the shot. The second time I just took the HO, and blew him to pieces before we crossed each others paths. Didn't even have to avoid the wreckage, there _wasn't_ any, just what looked like paper streamers falling gently towards the ground.

That's why I fly American Iron  .

The Zeke hehehe this thing is soooooooo manouverable that after a 10 min dogfight I have to run at the toilets and throw up.

Even worse, I can't hit a thing as it's too sensitive to fly when I jerk the joystick around.
Dat jugs bro.

Only 400 of them were N1K2-J's though. The rest were N1K1's and N1K1-Ja's.

And of the 20mm armed ones, not all had the Type 99 2 cannons, either

To tell ya the truth, with navy planes in the works, a N1K1 float plane would prolly be a pretty dang nice addition.

Zeke to a pony pilot = Gnat.

Niki to pony pilot = Gnat on steroids.

Pony to a Zeke or Niki pilot = BUG ZAPPER
