Sound Cards Really Make a Difference?
« on: April 01, 2003, 07:31:36 PM »
S!

Ok, I have a Creative SBLive sound card. I've heard of the Audigy Gamer, etc etc - but really, what do they do? I mean is the sound *actually* better? Or do they just have more features and stuff?

If the sound is actually better, could someone recommend a few sound cards to consider purchasing?

Thanks! :)

From the one's I have heard in person the newer Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and the Hercules Gaming Theater 7.1 are nice. Hercules has another that is a step down in price from the Gaming Theater but still has excellent sound. All of these cards are in the sub $100 range and no less than $65

CPU usage !

I've switched from a 1ghz KT7a Mobo 512 Mo with a SB live player to a 1ghz A7N8X(nforce2 chipset)  Mobo 512 Mo without the SB  my avg fps jumped from 58 to    68 ...

Now that I've my Barton 2500+ and 1 Go DDR I'm almost never below 80 fps ... and sound is cristal clear when it was pretty rotten with the SB (plus I was having stutter under IL-2)
