I have to disagree with your assessment. As with many people, you appear to underestimate the P-40E versus the later Japanese designs (notably the Tony). Actually, I know you underestimate it since you quoted its sea-level speed as 276 in the other thread, which is about 20 MPH low. That would be accurate for the P-40B, which is greatly inferior to the -E.

The P-40E is a match in a dogfight with the Ki-61 at altitudes under about 11,000 feet. IMO it is the most even plane matchup in AH...it is one of the very few matchups where the planes are so even that neither has to fear a turning fight with the other.

Add the F4F-4 and A6M2 the the already-chosen bomber fleet into the mix for variety, and you have a good, balanced setup that doesn't require one side to fly the same plane all week. DO NOT add F4U-1, which is so much better than the Tony/Zero it's not even funny. If any plane screws up the balance of mid-war PTO setups in AH, it's the F4U-1.

You can think what you want, but you're wrong. Like I said, you appear to underestimate the Kittyhawk.

FYI

At low levels, the P-40E will out-climb the Tony by a useful margin, and will turn roughly as well (they're close enough that initial advantage, pilot skill, and fuel load will decide it). The Tony is faster, but not so much faster that a higher P-40E can't force it to engage. They have roughly equal firepower, durability, and range.

The Tony IS likely the better plane, but it's not that much better, at least not until you get over about 12,000 feet (which is not all that common in the CT). If I'm in a P-40E, I consider a co-alt Tony to be an even match.

In comparison, in the F4F vs A6M2 matchup, this is a much less interesting fight because the Wildcats will typically refuse to turn-fight and will instead simply BnZ the Zekes. The Zero is IMO considerably inferior to the F4F.

Perhaps you're just unwilling to create a setup where the Japanese side actually has a slightly better plane than their US counterparts?

I do Disagree with you assesments of the comparison of the two planes above, I realy feal the Tony is Better.

I do think the Assesment of the A6M2 vs the Wildcat is closer to the truth howeaver.
