The poetry of Donald Rumsfeld
« on: April 03, 2003, 02:50:59 AM »
It's really quite beautiful

Couple of examples:

The Unknown

The Unknown
As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know.

—Feb. 12, 2002, Department of Defense news briefing

A Confession

Once in a while,
I'm standing here, doing something.
And I think,
"What in the world am I doing here?"
It's a big surprise.

That one is awesome.  It's a pretty important concept too.

What's funny is that people keep bringing up that quote to show what a tard Rumsfeld is, and yet it makes perfect sense to me what he's trying to get across.

Guess I'm a tard too!  :D

I think you're mistaking a buffoon for a prophet.

Why didn't he just say:

There are some things we are aware of, but have little information about. On the other hand there are things we are not aware of, and have no information about.

He's a tard.
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.

For starters, he said more than that.

He could have said that but he was speaking to the press.

So, if he'd used your terminology, they absolutely would have been unable to understand what he meant.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

The information in Mr. Rumsfield's quote is directly attributable to a concept known as "Risk Management."  This concept is historically a subset of Project Management, but recently has come to be viewed as a separate field.  The IT sector was THE job market for the last 20 years.  The hottest two jobs in the next 20 years are forecast to be Project Managers and Risk Managers.
Just my two cents...

Actually, if you watch the press conference where this happened you will see that it's the people who keep bringing up this statement who are the tards.  He was obviously joking, and the reporters were chuckling.  He was just trying to point out to them that they were constantly asking him questions which would require speculative answers.  Those who write it down and use it as proof that he is mentally deficient have an agenda.

Bollocks he did, Sikboy. He muddied his words, but that was his general meaning.

There are things we know about. There are things we don't know about in any great detail, apart from their existance. And then there are things whose mere existance is beyond us and any other detail is a complete mystery.

Don't make out it's a work of literary genius. It isn't.

Surely you know the difference between two and three? (Hint, it's "One") Be a good boy now, and off to class with you.

What rumsfeld said was poetic, what gayboy dowding said was not even though they said the same thing. :)

Poetic!

Hehe.

There once was a man from the pentagon
Who's words often sounded like prattle on.
But the Generals ran the War
While his words hit the floor
Or else his big job would be long gone.
