Check news & announcements. Probably because of the space & bandwidth required for HTC to store & xfer the files.

There was also the people posting pics in the Screenshot and Images forum simply so they could access them from somewhere else. The feature was being abused.

Simple answer:

HiTech & Comp. figured out they could save some $$$ by having us host images off other servers.

And like just about all other companies still in business after 9/11, they have to find ways to cut costs.
