Can someone shed some light on this?
« on: April 05, 2003, 07:16:16 AM »
The more and more I fly in AH, the more and more I look forward to night time in the game. I would really like to see a longer durration of night. Somthing like around 3-4 hours. To do this we would first need some cockpit lights, instrument lights, and landing lights on the aircraft. So far the only problem I have ran into flying at night is, landing. Its hard to gauge my sink rate on approch. More than once I have snaped a gear or two off.
I think it wouldnt be so bad to have runway lights to. Not for the forward bases, that would just be silly, but some of the rear area bases, so we have staging areas for bombing run. Night time bombing can be carried out just like it was in real life, by Lancs. This would also open the door to more aircraft. Planes like the night time verson of the ME 110, or the P61 Black widow. I just think it would up the emersion factor as well.
It would be great if we had night time in full overcast skies, no stars or moon. Full weather would be great too. Bad weather, rainy weather. Things that really seperate the good pilots from the not so good ones. I am pretty sure it wasnt always sunny and 70 outside every day when they flew. :)

Turn your monitor off...its the same effect

Night is about as useful as a monkey on a cheese cracker.  Currently, night does two things, it makes 90% of the people log off, and the other 10% just adjust their gamma to make it look like daytime.  Unless/until AH2 has radar equiped night fighters, the only use for night is to give bombers cover....which is made useless because of the glow in the dark icons.

Night is already an annoyance, even as short as it currently is.  Making it any longer in the MA would do nothing but cost HT money as people quit the game because when they log in for their 1 hours of play...its dark....making fighter opps useless.

I guess so if your a pilot that lacks the skills to fight at night.... If the night was made longer it would force ppl to play durring it. So they would have to learn the ends and outs of night fighting. There were also a large number of planes that were radar equiped.

Oh please...."lacks the skill"

the only skill to fighting at night is turning up your gamma to see in the dark, and heading towards the enemy icon.  And just what gamer want to be "forced to play durring it".   Thats just what I want...a game that tries to force its memebers to fly when they cant see.  There are NO radar equiped planes, there are NO lights in enemy cities and airfields to use as guides at night in the game.

Please elaborate on the "skill" you use to fight an enemy you cannot see.

BBBB,  check out the Combat theater... they might have what youre looking for.  I mainly fly CT and flying at night is a real pick me up. I use alot of that time for bombing.  See you there!  enjoy!:D :)

Ive played the CT, and night bombing is hard, but at the same time a lot of fun.   I agree with longer duration of night.

If anything, night should be shorter or gone altogether. I'de much rather have better weather effects than longer night durations.

The problem with night now is that it bears no relationship to reality.  Enemy icons should be turned off during night, the moon shouldn't be full, and planes' exhausts should emit little blue flames.  But that's not going to happen, so I don't bother flying during night.  Usually I just put a buff formation on auto climb and go do something else for 45 minutes.  I never go higher than 30k, though.  I am not an alt dweeb!  In fact, I think any bombers over 30k or so should start to suffer random gun failures, representing the guns freezing up or the gunners suffering from cold.  The higher you go and the longer you stay there would increase the chance of each gun being lost.

Hi, BGBMaw

I like to intercept bombers, and I do run into buffs at 30k plus just a little too regularly.

I don't think it's too hard to hit a strategic target from 30k plus.

If there were a wind layer at 30,100 feet going a different direction than the one below that would through bombs off, making bombing from that alt pointless.

wrong...

if you calibrate and not change your heading more then 10 degrees (when above wind layer) boms will hit target...

And i still do not belive you "intercept Bomers regularly at 30k"..

but owell

I dont care..i just think you are lying..or just kidding yourself..

I bom alot

I fly ftrs alot..

I have probably seen buffs that high 2 times in the last few months...30K+!!??lol

Ummm...have you thought of looking at your instruments, like your rate of descent meter and altimeter?  You know that's one of the reasons why there's instruments in the first place.

No offense but you're one of the last people that should comment about other people's skill levels in this game.
