Now who is pigeon holeing?

Note Sir that I said "I'll bet..." at the start of my post.  I wasn't stating fact, just my opinion.

Same thing here but to a much lesser degree. If we're not hooting and hollering about how great Bush is we're anti-americans, idiots, morons, communists...

good point Sandman.

Perhaps if you put the word 'some' into your original statement, it might have made some sense and have some basis in fact.

But that would have less impact. As it is now it's just the usual bull****ty generalising.

Oh, and although you didn't notice, I was actually joking about the dictators part.

Okay Dowding...let's hear your thoery on why there are all those statues, murals etc of Sadaam.

I suspect you are just being argumentative and that you will probably now just ignore this thread as a direct question has now been posed..

Saddam is an egotistical, genocidal maniac. He like to see images of himself everywhere and it reminds people who is da boss.

The fact that Hussein was/is a nutcase has never been in doubt.

Okay, so we agree on why they are there...I guess your previous comments related to my thoughts on the anti-war people's opinions as to why they are there.  Fair enough.

Yes. :)

I was basically saying that painting 'anti-war' people as broadly pro-saddam is not accurate, in my opinion.

Hmmm, I think most people are Anti-war.  But then there are those that know when its necessary, and those that think its not and prefer to hide in the closet and wait for the big bad monster to just go away.(Thats usually the silver spoon variety) ;)

It's the 'when it is neccessary' bit which is causing the most trouble.

Fdor those of you not familiar with Saddam's psyche, I should inform you that he is a big fan of Joseph Stalin.

As Stalin (and Hitler) he has created a cult of personality. And he knows the psychological value of having his picture or whatever looking down on the population, reminding them that they have a leader that sees all, hears all, and punishes all.

His secret police is modelled after what Stalin did, and he has studied him in detail. The man is an utter narcissist, though an intelligent one.

Please, pro war people; be fair. being anti war doesn't mean being in support of Saddam Hussein. Who'll be irrelevant soon anyhow.

I wish for the best of luck for the coalition, although I do not support Bush. I hope the Iraqi people are given a chance to develop into a democratic people, and all things aside, the war is a relatively cost effective way or doing it. take all the people Saddam has killed or would have killed if he was to remain in power til he died. Compare with civilian and military casualties for coalition and Iraq.

I don't believe the war is about liberating Iraq. It's about Bush' bigger amibtion of shifting the power in the region yet if democracy comes to Iraq, I am more than willing to accept that as a spinoff effect, although I seriously do not buy the Bush propaganda and fancy words. I have lived long enough to realize that foreing policy isn't really defined by freedom etc, but by realpolitic concerns.
