Author Topic: Urgent recommendation requested Aimpoint M2 (Read 782 times)

Quick, before I part with a substantial chunk of cash, anyone had any experience with Aimpoint M2 - especially in a forward mount configuration?

Any alternatives of similar capabilities (low mount for co-witnessing is required, which rules out Trijicon, etc.)?

Advice?

ive got some time with that sight. if you are gonna go forward mount what are you putting it on? ill ask around with some guys but give me a little more info.

Mini-14 with an Ultimak M4 rail for now.

okay dude can you wait a couple of days? i have zero experience using it in config you describe but much experience using it on other weapons. im betting theres a guy i work with who has actual experience with mini14 because i know he owns a couple of them at least but hes travelling for work and wont be in the shop for a day or two. its a great sight overall. most of my time with them is on m4s. are you gettin compm2?

anonymous - forget other configs and Mini-14.
What can you tall me about the M2 unit itself?
I am considering going with M2 rather than ML2 (which is $50 less) because some day I might need that NVD capability.
What ranges is that 4 minute dot is goot at? What distance would you preset it for?

I am afraid I wouldn't be able to hold for two more days... Or hours...

At various times I've played with all the aimpoint-type stuff. Never been that impressed with it. I much prefer trintium-type illuminated front and rear sights. Or practice using a gun and a flashlight in tandum.

Just my opinion however.

Flashlight is not really a replacement for a rifle sight.

That's suprising hearing two negative comments to a single positive one.
The Comp M2 and Comp ML2 models are the ones US military currently uses, aren't they? It would certainly suck to be issued a crappy sight and have no choice to get a better one.

What is a better model, in your opinion?

am thinking i have never seen anyone worth a crap hunt with aimpoint anything.

screws with your ability to pull a sight picture uninterupted.

they do look neat tho

Miko, I have a friend who has put a lot of time into researching holo sites for his ar-15, he has decided on the EO tech, it is less expensive than the aimpoint and is better quality wise according to everyone he has talked to about it. Here is the web site:

Thanks, it certainly seems to be a great product - though not less expensive, as far as I see.
The only problem is that due to it's higher base, it can't be mounted on a Mini to allow co-witnessing the iron sights. I am pretty much limited to tube-bodied sights in that respect.
