What about a 2nd Tactical Airforce setup sometime?
« on: April 10, 2003, 07:06:39 PM »
All of the late war European Theatre setups have focused on the USAAF vs the Luftwaffe, usually with a bit of RAF support form a couple of bases.

I suggest a RAF vs Luftwaffe & Wehrmacht setup with some USAAF support circa September, 1944.

RAF 2nd Tactical Airforce:

C-47A
Mosquito Mk VI
Spitfire Mk IX
Spitfire Mk XIV
Tempest Mk V (25 perks)
Typhoon Mk Ib

British Army:

M-3
M-8
M-16
Panzer Mk IV

USAAF:

C-47A
P-38L
P-47D-30

US Army:

M-3
M-8
M-16
Panzer Mk IV

Luftwaffe:

Bf109G-6
Bf109G-10
Bf110G-2
C-47A (Ju52)
Fw190A-8
Fw190F-8
Fw190D-9
Me262A-1 (50 perks)

Wehrmacht:

M-3
M-8
M-16
Ostwind (10 perks)
Panzer Mk IV
Tiger I (15 perks)

What do you guys think?

Only the last cople of late Allied vs German set up's have beeen limited in their scope since all other's priour to that had both the British and the Americans aganst the German's in an unlimited maner.

I am shure somthing along these lines is in the offing.

Sounds perfect to me except for Perking the "Ostie." With all the tactical air the Allies are going to put up the Germans need something to keep them at bay.

And could I have a Ta-152 in there somewhere too? Heheh... never hurts to ask. I would actually prefer it to the 262 personally, but that's just me. Between the tempy, spit 14, and typhoon I don't think there would be any balance problems, imho.

I didn't leave the Ta152 out for balance reasons.  I left it out because it wasn't in service yet.

Advance the calander to Feburary, 1945 and the Ta152 is in.

Or you can just put it in for fun.  I'd have no problem with that.  Probably as a very cheap, say, 5 point perk unit or as a freebie.

yeah, a freebie to help counter the freebie spit14.

"gameplay" and "balance", eh wot, let's be sporting shall we?

According to the Luftwaffe fans the Spitfire Mk IX is harder to deal with than the Spitfire Mk XIV.  The last setup that had the Spitfire Mk XIV had it as a freebie and there were no problems.

I actually had have a mind to leave the Spitfire Mk IX off the list, but it was too important at that time to really do that.

exactly...  freebie ta152 to show them luftweenies that it ain't all that. just like showing the nancy-boys that the spit14 wasn't all that.

i thought the the spit 14 was a high alt spit 9, the same old spit but high alt motor. ive fought spit 14s with a ta152 at 30+k they do good up where the ta152 is in its element and they seemed to have the edge at high alt. i always thought the ma perking was correct for this plane though the use of it may not be agreeable to those who want it for a general pourpose "uber" spit, worthy of the perkage cost. to me it is a high alt fighter with corectt performance. just my 2cents guys

bigsky,

Nobody is saying the Spit XIV's performance is wrong.

BTW, it is far better than the Spit IX if used correctly.  Spit IX does 321mph on the deck, Spit XIV does 358mph on the deck.

And keep in mind that the Spit IX's Merlin 61 engine is also a high altitude engine.  That is what causes some of us to laugh when we see P-38 and Bf109 jocks complain about its high altitude performce.  The idiots think it is low tuned like an La-7 or something.

Spitfire Mk IX has a Merlin 61 at 1,565hp

Spitfire Mk XIV has a Griffon 65 at 2,050hp.

Heheh, I just wanted the 152 'cause I enjoy flying it... it's a fun bird to play around with. It seems like the FM of the 152 has been redone too... it does better at lower alts now than I would have expected, and seems to be more of a dog up high. Realistically, I would probably be in the dora more than anything else anyway. The spit 14 has never really been a problem, you're right about that, seems like most people see "spit" and just use it to knifefight. Tempest would be the only tricky plane in there imho, and the people who could afford it would be the same people who are dangerous in ANY plane anyway, so no big deal.

Sounds good... hope we get it sometime soon!
