Very warpy lately!!!!
« on: April 11, 2003, 12:11:04 AM »
Guys,

It has been happening all week long. I get on someones six and they zoom in and out. I understand that it can happen from time to time and I usually deal with it. However, I have heard other guys complain about it lately, as well. It has happened at least twice a day to me this week. Something is wrong. Either the server is messed up or we have people playing with thier modems. One of my friends thinks its a new cheat. Please look into it HiTech. Anyone else wanna chime in about this?

It has been extremely common this last two days So bad that I get frustrated and log off. :(

It happens even when only a moderate number are playing so I suspect packet loss on the network adjacent somewhere to the server.  I hope it improves soon as it does spoil the fun, when you see an enemy warping all over the sky. :)

Just adding that I have also noticed a massive increase in warping lately.

Let's see...what will be the response from HTC?  "Check with your ISP."  or "Adjust your display settings."  or " Do you have antivirus running?"

My point is this....I have yet to see a response from them that takes responsibility for lag, warping, etc.

Let's hope that if enough people post info like the previous messages above, they will look into it further.

I hope so... I have logged off also a number of times because of the unpleasant experiences.

Maybe you cound be bothered to STFU and let us have our tecnical support questions answered. Rather than read your self rightious BS. TY.

Lets be fair about this - HTC has no control over lag due to the routers into the host, other than placing their contracts elsewhere next time around if they think it necessary, meanwhile they can yell at their own ISP routers to fix whatever is causing problems.  Yes, players own ISPs do have a bearing, I've seen many players complain when the majority are having no problem, and quite often it is down to the user's own end of the equation more often than not, or their "particular" route into the host is porked temporarily, or their own ISP is not performing well.

However, if a large number of players report host problems which we have had recently I'm sure they will do their best to fix it, as after all they don't want to lose custom.  It would be quite sufficient to report problems without apportioning all the  blame to HTC alone. After many years that I have been playing on multiplayer hosts it isn't a new problem, and it's remarkable that it works so well most of the time. :)

I havent flown for about a week, and last night saw warpage so bad the game was un playable.  HTC has a big problem on their hands and if it is not addressed my bet is alot of people with me included will say "adios"

IL2 FB will see alot more game time...

<> All,

...and thank you for the witty comments.  Notice I didn't place any blame anywhere; ALL I did was post my OBSERVATIONS.  No need to attack anyone for their post.

214th-  Thank you for so politely pointing out the post that so many of us has overlooked.  Maybe you could include where the post is, so we may read it also.  I do not doubt its existence, it would just be nice to read what HTC has to say, since you "couldn't be bothered" to direct us to it yourself the first time.

Again, didn't point fingers, just stated observations.

It is difficult to keep up with the many messages on BBS; my apologies if my overlooking something caused any inconvenience in your day.

If you read my first post you will read that I usually put up with the occasional warping problems. I too have been playing flight sims for years and understand the technical problems that can arrise. Such is online gaming. My point was that this is out of the ordinary. I agree that they have done a great job at keeping it to a minimum until recently. Reagardless of any notification they may have given, I think it is important that they have this sort of feed back from thier paying customers. Most businesses don't have this luxury, when a customer isn't satisfied he simply doesn't come back. I was hoping Skuzzy would read this and post something we could all read. Like "We know about it, just bear with us and we'll fix it." is all. If we don't keep them informed then nothing will get solved. Maniacal is right, what he posted is his observations. What 214th cavalier posted was unhelpful opinion. And kinda snotty if you ask me. I'm not a BBS junky. So I dont read every post. But when I have a problem I want to know if its thier end or my end or some new way the technotards have figured out to cheat. when a Niki zooms in to 200m to shoot me when im doin 475mps and we were both flat out I want to know why. That is all. Have a nice day.:p

I agree totally, I was trying to be polite (I usually am :) ), having been on the receiving end of much slagging off on AirWarrior, often unwarranted, as it was in my remit of my employment there in the distant past to answer many of the technical queries, and player frustration can lead to some very harsh words. :)

I've seen some really wierd and crazy warps recently, more than is normally seen with any standard lag, so something is wrong I agree.

Not everyone uses a cable modem, it may be some are using 56K modems, and haven't a clue how to set these up for online gaming, (reducing buffer size and adjusting the modem packet size does help, which is a different setup to normal browsing,) which may be exagerating  the problem. Still frustrating so I hope it improves, because it does spoil a lot of fun. < Just saying >

We have a new server going in place soon.  We had hoped it would have been installed last Friday, but it did not happen.

We are aware of some issues and are working on it.

Once again, I ask could this cause hard lock ups? It seems unlikely but given the PC is trying to cope with loads of info over the web....hmm.  Nobody else seems to get seizures cos of connection problems although there was that bomber bug way back.

Doubt it, no lockups at all here at all.  Lockups usually occur because of some conflict on your own PC.  Usually it's a sound conflict when interupts are shared on sound cards (seems to be the most common cause). A CTD may occur from time to time, but I haven't had one of those lately in this current version. Seems very stable.
