Hey guys, am I the only who will strafe acks?
I've often been at nme fields with 10 or more friendlies and no-one strafes the ack, what gives? It's actually not to hard, just keep a constant grooving turn going to keep the ack off ya. Flying a p47 or hogc helps too. If 4 guys would take out 2 acks each, wha-la, ez-vulching all around. What gives, is it too hard or what?

Nope, its  just that most hang around looking for an easy kill, and don't want to chance scratching the paint on their A/C.

Dude, you need to join a squad(if you haven't already) like my -323 where we  have 'a goal' whenever there are 3 or more of us up...we don't care about our scores, but do care about teamwork...

Some of the best "Field  Destruction" gentlemen reside in Knightland, to name just a few, CaveJ, Zig, Udie, I could go on and on...lotta knew faces online lately in Knitland too, so alot may not know the proper technique.

It seems there's a lot more people these days that just want to vulch.  Acks are easy to kill and you wont get any better at it unless you practce it.

If I'm in a fighter I'll strafe them, yes I die a lot doing it but I'm getting better!

I must admit it, I ALWAYS die straffing acks without killing even one of them. I know to dive bomb them, still to straffe acks with 2x20mm is not my strong point

I really like to strafe acks with the dhog with rockets. Seems to be a better package for me. Once I use up the rocks, the .50's work really well on ack for me.

Strafing acks is the easiet thing to do.  I first start with rocks.  over the field at about 10k I dive straight down, point at about 3 acks and fire 2 rocks a piece at them.  Rolling and pulling about 2 gs the whole time, extend and grab.  The trick to using the guns is not to aim at the ack.  Aim below or to the side and pull through the targe while firing.  That way the ack is firing at a moving target not straight at one.  Pulling and rolling through the ack and never pointing at one is the key.  I can take down all the ack at most fields with no pings to me(not counting large fields).  Smalls and mediums I usually have ammo left over to vultch if need be.  Never point directly at the ack, fool the otto code gents easiest way to do it, keep it recalculating its lead.

I think people just need to learn how easy strafing ack is, and that hey, vulching is a lot more fun without a buncha guns firing at ya

Provided there isn't a bunch of enemy CAP around, it reletively simple and not too dangerous.  I can clear a field in my Niki, no prob.

Wait...this is a post for K'niggits, umm...forget what I just said.  Diving in on ack in ANY situation is just suicide, plain and simple!

hi all:

hey dudedog, how goes it.
yes I straff the acks, but not real good at it, but I am getting better, Zigrat is probably the best ack killer when it comes to straffing that I have seen.

One thing to consider is that some of us are just figuring out how to get off the friggin ground.  Don't assume that just becuase someone hovers over a base, they're vulching.  Sometimes we're just happy to get the bird up there and enjoy the view!

Most of us "Wretching Crew" (as Rip so eloquently put it) straffe ack. Heck, for a while there it was Cave, Zig and I's only mission in life it seemed. I still do when there is an effort to take a field and/or no cons in sight to tangle with.

Sure wish I was gonna make the con this year, but I had a choice to make...prop governor o/h for the 172 or the con. Send me a plane ticket Rip, I'll be there <BG>. Next year.....

If done properly it's very easy.  I've taken down all the ack (including the 88's) at large fields in a P47.  I've wiped out ack at small and medium fields in 38s, 51, 47s, f4u's (both -1C and -1D models).
There are a couple of films if me taking down ack at A26 in the help and training boards, on the thread 'JABO: use what ya got'
One is just me and Ripsnort (goon), and the other I'm taking down the ack while a fight rages around me
Both are in a P38 using rockets (if you can do it with 1 rocket per ack, you can do it with guns, no problem).

I regularly strafe acks, even when I am not jaboing.

No cons = strafe acks.
