I suggest the Message of the Day in the TA have a bold, underlined statement in the first line that says "If you wish to have training please enter the MA and ask for a trainer" (if it doesn't already).

I don't think it's reasonable to expect a trainer in the TA 24/7 but newbies should be informed that they need to ask for one...

P.S. I tried to register on AGW to post a reply to the thread but I was unable to as my email is a hotmail account.  AGW has blocked all hotmail.com users from registering.  I think it says something about their community so I wouldn't hold too much stock in their opinions...

read it and it turned me off as well.

Have to say though that what is happening in our TA is not good. I've seen it before whenever I was in there. Many people don't read and/or mind the opening statement when entering the TA.

With the recent increase of the AH community, did the No. of AH trainers increase as well? I ask this because I see much more people in the TA than ever before and very often without a trainer in the TA.

I know that the trainers of AH are not to blame for that and I won't do that. Trainers help out people that ask them. But to my knowledge it is still hard to find a trainer or to find out how to reach one.

Is there a list of AH trainers with their e-mail addresses stated somewhere? Maybe expanding the opening statement with a list like that would help.

Wasn't the primary reason I left the training corp, but it was a reason...Trainers had(have) no control in there, and HTC never offered us the tools to control (whether that be CM tools, or eject tools)  Privating someone works for curbing behavior with some, with others it only further promoted them to be even more vicious.

I'd like to see trainers get .eject and maybe .mute commands in the TA. Or something I proposed a year or so ago. ".behave", makes them stuck in tower & muted for ten minutes.  :) Might work.

I popped in there to practice torp runs from a CV.  Some clown kept vulching me before my gear was up.

I asked politly for him to stop and he never responded.  As a new player this would turn me off as well.

I never go to the TA but in the last month I've seen large numbers indicated in there. I think the Training arena needs another name and pronto so it is not associated with training what so ever.

Good posts on your part Funkedup over on AGW. While the topic there does make the AH TA to look like a cesspool of idiots it also gave a few in the same belligerent people in the WB's community a chance to show thier assinine dark side too.

I am not well versed on this topic but, I'll offer the following:
When I first came over to AH I mentioned a need for some help with stuff in AH. I posted it in here and got a ready reply from Lephturn. He in turn put me onto a guy I knew from the AH beta days. We hooked up for a bit and then he hooked me up with Ammo. This was with a minimum of effort on my part. I cannot understand why some would say the trainers are not accessible.
OTOH, there are greater numbers in here now, and it may be a good idea to canvass Squadron leaders to ask their pilits (capapble pilits) if there is any interest in becoming a trainer. Also, there should prolly be a schedule posted up in the TA of when trainers will be on duty for which kind of assistance or, have different training topics scheduled so those interested can make sure they attend.
Finally, one thing is for sure, the idiots need to be somehow curbed by ejection, otherwise they will screw it up for everyone else. It is simply what they do and should not be allowed to do it to the detriment of others. The training arena is for training and not Wads who simply exist to annoy.

The TA has always had a bit of a problem balancing furballing and training. I was one of the original trainers and was involved in a pretty heated set of issues regarding FFA vs training...I did...and do support a FFA enviornment...but now we have dueling nad combat arena. I still feel a FFA (free for all) field is a good idea...you need to practice what your learning.

At the time we (the trainers) had no real ability to enforce a code of conduct and more than a few feathers were ruffled...mine included  :). I haven't been in the TA in months but it seemed to be fine as of july/august.

Or what about making their guns ineffective for 10 minutes... Let them fly around but not shoot anyone. That way, they cant do any damage, but they still get to fly around, which might help to calm the situation better than confining them to the tower.

I was a trainer in AW and we had privs in our TA including eject. I can say I never had to do that in my time there and only witnessed one ejection ever--and that guy was beggin for it. Usually a simple request to knock it off followed by an offer to join the group being trained did the trick. If that didn't do it a sterner warning usually was sufficient.

The TA in AW was open to everyone all the time. The only "restriction" we had was during training sessions (which were a regularly scheduled nightly thing). On nights when I was manager I would greet folks entering the arena and if they just wanted to furball I'd direct them to a field not in use by a trainer/trainee. That way what's goin on in the AH TA now generally was avoided. Diff here is there isn't a "door" so to speak that can be watched.

Another diff is we didn't have folks using the TA as a regular furball type arena as we had kills turned off. You *could* kill a guy but the plane would pop right back up--a training thing. Saved time. We had a Fighter Town arena for furballin and such--and it was usually populated with numbers similar to what you're seeing in the AH TA now. It had kills on and had all the planes on but field capture was off. And you could get points in there. Might be time for a change. Just a thought.

"Or what about making their guns ineffective for 10 minutes..."

It's not enough. Dispruptive behavior is just that and it isn't only expressed via belligerent vulching of someone repeatedly. If you take thier "guns" or "planes" they'll simply spam the radio with vulgarities in order to continue pissing people off.

I stopped into the TA yesterday when I saw there were 20 people in there. I only saw/heard one major idiot in the 15 minutes I was there to see what was up. This punk sat in various field ack and vulched people (friendlies) as they took off. Then continually cussed on the open channel when peopel asked him not to. "Str8r"  or something close to that was the handle.  Most of his victims were people so new they had no idea that AH has mannable ack guns.  The rest of the folks were having fun and trying to learn.

IMO HTC really needs to start a log of the text buffer running in there or get active with trainers online helping for at least 18 of thre 24hrs.

I think a lot of the problem folks are on thier 2 week trial. Not all, but many of them.
