It does seem the terrain altitudes are always mountains, or mountains with some valleys thrown in the mountainous area.
It would help to chop a few K off the mountain tops but to compensate, if they wanted to, they could add some valleys from the lower elevations too. They could go below sea level but maybe a negative altitude is a problem in the making of the terrain.
Offshoot idea would be to add some dams that you could bomb and flood strat targets or bases. Add skip bombs to the Lancasters too

Another idea concerning the length on large maps.
Maybe have the larger maps be reset when a side gets down to a certain number of bases.
Start with a country only needed to be lowered to five bases for a winner to be declared. If that resets the map to soon or to slowly still, that number could be adjusted to get a nice map turn around time.
You would probably still spend 3 weeks on this map but it would be three shifts of a week each with the maps that get reset in a day or two throw in to break up the map fatigue factor.
Notice I didn't say I didn't like the map, I do.
I'm in the catagory of you play the map and not let the map play you. Make the best of each one.
