I have come to the conclusion that at least to me, the Yak is either the most dangerous aircraft in this sim or the best pilots fly it.

I have a fit with the Yak....it holds its E...its fast....turns on a dime and grabs hard....All other aircraft I fly relaxed against, but not this devil!

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the Yak to be as dangerous as I percieve it to be?

I'm Out!

The Yak rules... I had a 40 kill streak with it in T7.

Not many people fly it because it has a small ammount of ammo, this doesn't realy come into play though with a good marksman/pilot behind the controls.

Yup the Yak is an awesome plane. I think one of the best things is people continually underate/underestimate it. It manouvers like crazy, is fast as hell(no WEP needed) and is a small target too. Limited ammo yes, but those MG's are very powerful and the cannon positively shreds. My favorite is catching P-51's, they think they're the fastest, but get em down to the ground and out of WEP and "yum" lunch

The aircraft is good, but the biggest thing is that only the very new or the very good fly it.

Good Aircraft+Excellent Pilot+Underestimated Ability = Very Deadly Combo

Just imagine what it could do if Pyro had used the 437mph flight test data instead of the 417mph flight test data.

Sorry Hang

Guess it's time to start using full throttle in our 51's....I know we talked about not doing that due to the adverse effect it would have on the LW drivers in the sim, but some direct action needs to be taken.

I'm Out and at full throttle!

The Yak is a very sweet ride, especially with the new FM.  It can turn with pretty much everything (except those wingtip pivot turns the N1K's do) and out climb most to boot.
The Yak drivers you have to worry about are the ones who dinnae fire until they're saddled up good about 150-200yds behind ya.  You get a Yak firing at you from over 500yds it's either a newbie Yak pilot, desperate to try and kill ya (maybe out of fuel), trying to break your concentration cause you're on his squadmate/countryman.

To help you non-YAK milk drinking pilots!  I found a weakness in the Yak at least at low altitude against the 190A5 and probably the A8(can't remember for sure  ) If you can slow it down when turning near stall speeds the 190 has superior acceleration. You can easily gain seperation by leveling out away from the Yak's turn direction and pull away like he "blew his clutch"  ! Don't try it unless you know he is slow too! The YAK is a great plane.    BERSERKR

The Yak is the russian equivelant of the 109F4.. to some extent. Turns real well, climbs real well, steady gun platform(!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and it can go vertical like a monkey on boat(weed laced with PCP). It's an excellent platform, the drawback is it'sg as load... not the ammo load. Planes with nose mounted armament are a freaking menace. Aiming is easier and you can really put the shots where they are needed.. the engine, pilot or tail. I remember the first time I took it up in  1.03. I took off, flew to I believe it was A4, and shot down quite a few craft while evading planes diving on me from above. Sweet ride, haven't flown it in this revision.. how's it fly this time?

I noticed one of the easiest ways to get away from a Yak(in a P38 anyway..) is to get level. While he's gaining on you from behind at around 1K back pull back into a steep climb. When he pulls back to follow, nose back down and ZOOM you go away leaving him in the dust. This was in 1.03 tho, so maybe the lesser E bleed means that Yak would catch up.. *gasp*

I have to completely agree. It used to be that 109 G10 was my most feared plane, now the yak has taken that mantle. It is truly an awesome plane. Not as fast as the mustang but if it catches ya low its aceleration makes short work of mustangs.

I've been flying the YAK for a while, and really love it. The small ammo loadout does require you saddle up and close the range to quite close before firing, the down side to that of course is that it means extra time that the con has to ping the wingman your tryin to clear, but when ya do get em in range.....
