The relative firepower of AH fighters
« on: April 12, 2003, 03:06:48 AM »
I have compiled a list of relative firepower of fighters of AH. The gun power values of various guns have been obtained from Tony Williams' excellent website:
http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/WW2guneffect.htm
These values are summed according to the gun setup of each plane. Each sum is then scaled so that the value of 1.00 is the most common gun layout of US fighters (6*.50 cals). All the other values are the relative firepowers to this.

The actual AH gun power values are probably not exactly the same as the values obtained by Tony, but I think they are close enough. The other factors like effective range of various guns, grouping, ammo load, and effect of synchronisation is not taken into account.

that matter most. The Hizookas are probrably the most effective gun in ah then the 50s considering those "other factors".

I think the Hispano mk.V in the tempest has a higher rate of fire than the Hispano mk.II in all other brit planes.

Oops, forgot Ta152, its added now.
The reason why the Tempest is better than Mossie is that the rate of fire of Hispano V was increased from 600 to 750rpm. This has much more effect than the extra 4*.303 in Mosquito.

The A20 only has 6 .50cal in the nose and the turret cant point directly forward. It should be 1.00.

Beaufighter had 4 hispano's, 6 forward firing 303's and one in rear turret.  There was also a version with 50 cal's instead of the 303's,  Im not sure but i think it had 4 of them.
