Just an idea from a new guy
« on: July 30, 2000, 12:51:00 PM »
Well I am new to paying the $30 a month but not new to AH. Love the sim and love the excitement of the main arena. I just had an idea and im not sure if its possible or even something anyone else would enjoy but here it goes.

One of the only things that really takes away from the simulated realism for me is that fact that when a base is in trouble people can either land and pop over to that base or a close base or if they dont care about their scores they can just exit and come back at that base. And I am not excluding me or my squadmates we do it too just like everyone else, but would it be possible to have either a "Historical Arena" or maybe even a night like say friday night that it would not be possible to do that. To where you have to actually fly to another base? The only problem I can see would be if you get caught at a base that is damaged or out of gas then you would have to wait but in a way that is more realistic huh?

Just some thoughts

Thanks

Of course you can throw 3000lb worth bombs on a hangar and keep it down for 15 minutes...

then to my personal opinion, 15 minutes is too short time for the trouble or load required is too much for the time it gives.
I got to just hate that when they come up even if fuel and ammo etc. are down but not one hangar (and you got to get all, or you will face either fighters or ackstars).

I wish there would be 30 minutes rebuild for hangars...

I am not sure what you are driving at Stardog.  Do you not want to let people come up at a base because it is under attack? Or not be able to move around?  What if the field you flew out of was captured, and the only other fields your country has is under attack?  Are you out of the game?

At what point should that base be frozen from new planes coming up?  With one plane circling over it?  Two? When it has sustained any damage from a bomb?

Would this fit in your thinking, I get a few guys in B17s, go up high, drop one bomb on each field of another country and nobody can fly?  Maybe you see where I am heading.

Actually what you want is possible, and often accomplished, but it requires destroying the hangars, both aircraft and vehicle hangars.
Then, nobody can come up.

Since you are new, you may not have been aware that this was the way it worked.  This being the requirement to "close" a base, it encourages countrymen to work together, develop and follow a strategy.

Welcome to AH, I hope you enjoy it.

I THINK he means you actually have to deploy. In other words, let's say everyone joining the game had to start from a random field belonging to thier respective country, now to get to another field ya'd have to fly or drive there, no more " .move commands"

While on the subject, I wish HTC would change the setup so that when ya land at a field, ya take off from that field, instead of back to whatever field ya originally started from. It's bitten me in the prettythang more than once, after I've brain-farted and forgot to .move

AH, well yes I didnt know that if you destroyed the hangers you cant take off. I guess my goal was to make it more realistic as far as people going to different bases with a click instead of having to fly there. Im not sure how you would accomplish that without running into some of the problems that has been pointed out here. Anyway it was just an idea, maybe something to think about.

Thanks for the info guys

I couldn't agree more! This is one thing that's always bugged me about AH. I mean, it's only logical. I wonder why HT set it up this way in the first place??

You know.. thinking about this ... I kinda like this idea

How many times have you been conducting a 'sneak' attack on an empty field when suddenly 5 guys teleport there from 100 miles away in M16's, just in time to catch the inbound C47?

Hmmm.. possibilities?

I also agree - please let us stay at the field where we land. I hate getting teleported back to some other base. If I want to go there, I'll .move.
