The FM of the La5 in 1.08
« on: November 20, 2001, 02:42:00 AM »
I believe they've changed the FM of the La5 considerably.  I used to fly the La5 a lot. I've flown it two or three times in 1.08 and it has developed some very nasty tendencies at low speed.

At 200 mph, it behaves like the F6F did in 1.07.

The La7 does not have the same limited low-speed abilities.  You can maneuver at 200 mph and never snap stall it.  Not so with the La5.

Has anyone else noticed this problem (compared to the 1.07 La5?)  Ghosth? Larry? SeaWulfe?  Heh, not many La5 sticks around anymore.  :)

cant say anything about the LA7 but hgave flown the LA5 for several sorties and I cant see a change. Its a little beast. IMO it is one of the beter bargains in AH. It will do 340 IAS on the deck, has an ENY of 30, and accelerats like a Porche.

It turns OK, but this AC was never really menat to turn. It IS however an extremely capable energy building AC.

It is VERY!!!   dangerous at lo speed (under 200)  :(
Dunno if it was the same before becouse I started to fly it last tour  :D.
And what to say about its weak gunnery: you need to close and close and close your enemy if you want get a kill. At 250 yards the cannons are really effective, but it seems to me the bullets drop is too much, compare with other weak guns, not with laser hispanos.
Anyway flying it is a fun challenge, and I love it for this   :)

I didn't notice a change in the La-5FN when I started up again.
It has always been touchy at low speeds.

La5 always had a very wicked snap stall. La7 has some of that but with the cleaner airframe seems to handle it better.

Besides, your not Supposed to try to outturn spits in it. (Just because I keep trying doesn't mean you have too! )   :)

Maybe its that we are use to the La7 handling, but I would agree with pops and say that the La5 sure seems touchy...much more so than the La7.  Jumped in here last night and couldnt yank her around like I remember doing.
