Auto Climb wont work!!!??
« on: April 14, 2003, 02:28:48 PM »
Hi everyone,

Ive been flying a CH Flightstick Pro for a couple of yrs. No problems!! I love the stick!! But now, after a year off, when joystick and rudder pedals lay unused, I cant get the Auto Climb, auto pilot or Level to work!! I've tried moving Dead-Band all over and nothing seems to help! Any suggestions would be great!?

I cant afford to get a new joystick right now, so ive got to fix this one! Ive read on other posts that sometimes cleaning out the POTS, will restore a joystick! Anyway, i have no idea how to do this one either! Any help on this point would be great! Any ideasss??

If the stick works otherwise (ie you can control it in normal flight) and it calibrates ok it sounds as though your keymapping is screwed.  Go into setup from the clipboard (do it offline is easiest) and check that key mapping is assigning the correct keys.

I was having spiking problems with my joystick that kept knocking the autopilot off.

There's Stickworks CTJF I use with my CH Pro pedals, ForceFX and my PRo Throttle that helps a lot. You can download it here:
http://home.att.net/~stickworks/swdownld.html#CTFJV320 - info
http://home.att.net/~stickworks/ctfjv320.zip - download

Follow the help and load it BEFORE you load Aces High.

Yes, good program, it can also be used to reduce rudder throw which helps with nosebounce in fighters,  I use it myself but it will only work with gameport devices not USB sticks for those interested.

Thank you for the suggestions!

Yes the Joystick is working perfectly otherwise.!  My keymapping Ive kind of customized over the years. Do you think that could be it!!?? Yeah, my joystick is calibrating fine too. Its just this problem with auto climb and level. They do come on ok !! But they always end up clicking off eventually!

Thanks for your suggestions, i will try it and see what happens!

Mister Forks,

Yeah , I downloaded the the stick thing that u suggested; but i was a little confused at what to  "un-install"? You want me to uninstall Aces High right? Then put this in right? But what do i just put  the whole CTJF file into the Aces High Folder. What folder?  The sticks folder right?? Heres another thing i noticed when i went into the "Stick folder" I did not see anything for my CH joystick! Whats up with that?   Normal? lol!

When it is installed, you just load the application BEFORE you play Aces High. As a hint, make a short cut to the application to the desktop.

1. Load Stickworks CTFJ.
2. Load Aces High.

Read the help to figure out how the settings work, but once you understand how the program works, your joystick will no longer bounce.

You install ctfj to a suitable directory (best to keep it separate from AH completely). Then make a shortcut on your desktop to the exe file ctfj3.exe.  The default directory is Program Files/Stickworks/ctfj3 if you allow it to install without specifying a directory.  Read the instructions in the text file which will also be in the directory, especially relating to centring the axis.

If you wish you can place a shortcut also in the start up folder in your start menu so that ctfj is loaded automatically when you boot the computer.
A ctfj icon should then be in the sys tray -and right clicking on it with mouse brings up the program screen for managing your settings for it. ctfj installs a vxd that smooths the controls, can also reduce overal throw, profiles response for the x and y axis if you wish instead of using AHs own profiling, and also centres the stick precisely. Always calibrate in AH with ctfj running with default settings, before altering throws.  You can do this "on the fly" by alt tabbing out of AH, and using the tray icon to acess the settings, and go back in again. ctfj can be unloaded from memory at any time using the tray icon to unload it.

Use the CTFJ to set all 3 axis to 100% X, Y and R i.e. defaults, and make sure the Center box is checked for each and dead zones are set to minimum 3, then use the windows calibration link button in CTFJ to calibrate the joystick in windows, then press the centring axis button in CTFJ (hold your mouse over each button to see what each one is) and then re-calibrate once again in windows again to make sure it is correct with CTFJ centering on.  All axis should now be centred properly.

Re-calibrate in AH with CTFJ running, and then see if the graph is giving smooth output, if it is then check if auto climb etc work now.  As a tip when calibrating the throttle in AH, when it asks you to move the throttle to the limits, stop it only just short of each end so that ensures wep will always engage and idle is definitely idle.

The graph for stick setup in AH should be smooth on each axis with no big jaggies, it it's still spiking you have either a dodgy pot, or the gameport itself is causing the problem. Sometimes just removing the gameport in the devices list, reboot and let windows re-install it again should fix it.

Lastly in the Stick controller listing in the Control panel in Windows, make sure that the box for Poll with interupts enable is un-checked.

Can't think of anything else to help you.

Spiffy,

Yeah, that seems to have done it!!  OFF line and ON!! Between disabling that one little thing and centering everything with that one program... I'm not sure which one it was, but its all working fine!!!!

THANKS Again,
