My take on the Med League
« on: October 22, 2000, 01:08:00 PM »
For the record, I'm the CO of the 190 A5 - "SchlachtGruppe 4 / SG4" squadron in the Med League. I have heard lots of proposals on what to do with the altitude problems in the Med League Scenario, alt caps, etc. I know there will be an alt cap in the 'Afrika Corps' Scenario coming up soon.

I have learned the hard way that the Aces High 190's are very bad at high (30k)altitudes, can't even think of turning. When we see spits or p38's coming in co-alt, our hearts beat in our throat, we know the odds are against us, the heat is on. (we get skeeeeeerd) That being clarified...

My proposal is this: Nothing. I hope nothing is done about it. I'm on the opposite side of the fence than most of my luftwaffe brethren. I don't want to see any special treatment given to the 190 just because high altitude isn't its strong suit. I enjoy the extra tension, knowing that I'm fighting from *at least* an even playing field, although likely bad odds.

I'll do whatever the big boys tell me too, but for the record, I'm pretty happy the way it is.

Fellow luftwaffe fellas, not disrespecting you, just respectfully disagreeing, thats all.

hblair,
CO SchlachtGruppe4

There will be no alt limits in the Med League.  This is being discussed at the SEA BBS: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/Forum7/HTML/000256.html

I agree with you completely hblair, why should the spits be penalized for their superior hi alt performance?  I mean, what's the difference between saying "P51s are 20 mph faster than spits, so to be fair there will be a speed limit of 350 mph."

I think the bottom line here is....

Do you (as a participant) in any v-Historical Event want to fly and enjoy a reasonably realistic (i.e. stratgy/mission/team oriented) campaign..?? or simply create a semi-historical series of fighter engagements (where the emphesis is on personal prowess and scoring of kills) between certain acft that existed in a common time frame and locale..??

Both could be fun, but my preference is definately the former...the latter is just not that far removed from current MA and lacks (more often than not) any semblance of teamwork between more than two or three people...

I tend to enjoy the team effort and find more satisfaction in knowing i did my part, rather than worrying what my current stats are...

I do hope there are sufficient numbers of players out there to support the Historical Arena of the mission oriented type, and we can enlarge the plane/vehicle/ship set to allow correct types being used rather than substitutions...

I do like the idea of bombing on the leader with bombers in campaigns...would require tight formation flying to get results and would negate the current accuracy of the bombsight...lead bomber would have to pick the aiming point very carefully to maximise formation effectiveness...and would allow bmbr pilots to maintain formation (yea..right.. ) all at the same time...

Now if gunners were in each bmbr as well...it would really be great!!!(but probably boring for the most part..such is life though)

We need more high altitude flak (am i nuts??) and fighter intercepts (i am nuts!!) to make things interesting...oh yes, kill-shooter off and collisions on..(sequenced takeoffs from a common spawn point would be needed then)

All of the above...would not be wanted by everyone, but I can wish can't I..

I'm all for hard bottoms also, but I go elsewhere for that, and I cannot promise that I wont get under them.

You guys are gonna hate Afrika scenarioo.

Top ceiling of 15k for fighters, 10k for jabos.

Me, I am gonna enjoy it. I hate high altitude fights. If you meet me in MA, you'll find me either disenganging or trying to lure you down. If ya don't wanna come down, I'll attack a lower target and then wait fer you to bounce me and blow yer e  .

I'm sure HBlair has something up his sleeve, so Iĝ'll just tag along for the Med.

Very well said Skipper.

I wrote a lengthy post on this issue in the Special Events Forum this morning.

But what it comes down too, is that if your flying 30K+ engagements in an event that is suppose too represent the historical action over the Mediterranean, something is seriously wrong.
