And what of the bombing of Tokyo where thousands of bombs were dropped causing the death of hundreds of thoysands?
And yes we can speculate what would have happened in an invasion of Japan. The battles of Okinawa and Saipan, islands with large japanese civilan populations showd just how devestating it woyld be to those poluplations who were often forced to commit suicide en masse by the japanese army. There is no reason it would be different on the Japanese home islands - in fact it would have been worse...
And frankly it is f8unny for a Frenchman to ask for more americans and british to have died needlessly in WW2 in an inavasion of Japan. How many troops did the French authorities send to help invade Japan in late 1945?
The fact is that the nuclear attacks saved millions of lives both american and japanese and greatly shortened the war and suffering of a 100,000,000 japanese and set them rebulding for peace and proseparity after decades agression and war.
This hatred of the use of nucler weapons in ww2 is a typical left wing self-centered argument. You oppose nukes, which is admirable and understandible for all, but then you selfishly suggest that countless more people should ahave died and suffered just as long as they dont die to the weapons you personally dislike.
In fact this attitide is identical to that of the pro-saddam anti-war crowd. You were all more than happy to let saddam stay in power and murder and let starve to dwath over a million of his own people as he has done in the last ten years, but god forbid the USA comes in and removes saddam for they could kill a few civilians.
Admit it you dont care about iraqi civilans at all or even japanese civilans, your real problem is with the USA, your real problem is resentment of american power - a sort of power france's ego wants but has not had in 200 years..
