In short, I got tired of gettin' dead every time I took the plane from the horizontal. :)

Also, mine is the USB/analog model. Does anyone else have this problem?
Setup and cal stick under Win2k, everything fine. Reboot machine at some point, have to unplug stick and reattach for Win2k to see it again.

theres a programme i used to use to stop my computer having to re-recognise on each startup. was called joystart and was simple to use.I had anologue saitek too and it kept not recognising on each start.Once i put this little (few kb) file in it worked fine.

heres where you'll find the file:

http://www.lycos.co.uk/search/frame/searchframe.html?url=http%3A//home.att.net/%7Estickworks/swdownld.html&query=joystart&rs=1

hope it helps, heres the description of the file (Jstrt100.zip)

' JSTRT100.ZIP contains JoyStart.exe, a small utility that may help if you're having trouble with your joystick not being recognized after a Windows restart. It sends a command to the joystick system to have it recheck it's current configuration, that's often enough to get the stick to be recognized in many cases. UnZIP the file somewhere on your hardrive. It should produce the JoyStart.exe file and another file, JoyStart.doc, which you can read with WordPad. It talks about setting up the JoyStart program and getting it to run automatically. (97,584 Bytes) '

umm, just go to Saitek's site and get the latest SGE version for Windows XP.  The latest version has support for the rotaries in WinXP.

When installing, sometimes your stick uses the Microsoft drivers instead of the Saitek drives, so the SGE software doesn't find a Saitek stick.  There's an FAQ on the Saitek page that tells you how to remedy this issue.

XJazz is right btw, I wanted to use the knobs as an axis, not as a banded button.

AcId, I can see the problems with that.  I guess you'd either have to do it where when disengaging the autopilot would throw the trim back to where the axes are set, or if you use axes for trim, you can't use the autopilot.

As it is now, I just use the hat on the back of the throttle for aileron and elevator trim.  I use the banded rotaries for gear/tailhook and damage/clipboard.
