Is a shellback someone who has had their "turn" in the barrel with a hole in it?
Some will fall in love with life and drink it from a fountain that is pouring like an avalanche coming down the mountain

That is a Knox class.  They changed from DE to FF.  My unit used to hop on those all the time.  Small ships, but pretty cool.

I was sent to that when they were selling it to the Greeks.

Hey SANDMAN!

Is your buddy Mike Pierce from Oklahoma?
He might be an old squad mate of mine from JG 51 MOLDERS.
Ask him if you would please.

Vaq I found a website dedicated to the ritual and there were just way too many photos of sailors dressed up as women.  :)

They have a "beauty contest", and every division onboard has to submit a contestant, including the SOS team and flight detachment.

I was team leader at the time, so I was unanimously elected.  My gf saw the pictures, and didn't even recognize it as me.  She said I looked darn good in a skirt, though.

have your fun. :)

I found a Web site that has an image of a shellback certificate from 1945.  The certificate reads almost exactly the same as the one I have from 33 years later.
