They're ALL heroes in my book.  God Bless Em!

Oh, and, bye the bye, personal beauty should never be a standard for judging a person's worth.  Our looks, or lack thereof, are an accident of genetics.  We have done nothing to deserve what we inherit.  I've known too many beautiful people who thought that life owed them more than the unlovely peons around them.

You ever hear of light green and dark green?
My point is i'm not hearing as much about this young lady as
The media darling Jessica lynch.
If I had to point the finger at someone it would be the media.

You're hearing reported just as many times if not more, of the group of 7 POW's of which she was one.

Jessica was a single POW rescued in a daring nightime raid

That is the difference.

they all have book deals in their future. played right - they won't have to work another day in their lives...

maybe they don't want the media's cameras crammed in thier faces .. I know I wouldn't.

What decade were you in the Army? Nowadays the Army is about as integrated and equal as it gets. Any discrimination is local, not institutional, and it is dealt with harshly

I was in the army 76-80
And yes there was rasism then.
And i was under then impressinion that the Lynch family was flown to Germany in a military transport plane?
My mistake if not.
But the other 7 POW's still got no where the press that Jessica got.

Actually, the military has aired the other 7 POWs more than Jessica.   They can't control what the media does.

Ummm.... the military changed drastically in the early-mid 80's.  I'd venture to say that service prior to 84 was vastly different than service afterwards.  Basically, your experiences there are not very representative of the modern military.  Hell... my experiences as of 93 are most likely not very representative of the modern military.  But at least I realize that.

Ah... so now you start talking about all of the other POWs and not singling out the one black female.  BTW, did you know that the black female soldier underwent two surgeries while a POW to repair gunshot wounds to her ankles?  She actually got better care than the other POWs around her.  So at least the Iraqis were racist and sexist.

As for the actual ignorance of the rest of this particular statement...

I wonder why someone being rescued from a hospital by special forces and a well planned joint operation would get more media coverage than "OK... here's your POWs".  And why, just because 1 person was rescued a week before and the media had hit virtually every aspect of coverage on Jessica and POWs in general that they'd feel they'd pretty much played the subject out.

Nah... its all because this set of POWs had a black female in it.  The media saw that and just lost interest.

 (for animal)

Haven't heard anything on it.
IMHO I think they should she was wounded and a POW as well
Just Like Jessica.
RC51,

If you fail to see how this thread went directly to the race card then you are quite simply obtuse.  The thread is title "Black female POW" for Christ's sake.  You then compare the treatment of a black female POW to that of the white female POW.  Then you say that everyone else brought up the race card?

Damn dude... buy a fricking clue.

Spoken like a truly ugly person. My condolences, but I have trouble empathizing since I am one of the chosen few who are absolutely, incredibly, good looking. No, really. Ask anyone.

I didn't.. that was adressed to a specific individual who is, as near as I can tell, the only one who managed to single out anyone amongst the POWs.... despite accusing everyone else of playing the race card.

Not to mention that Jessica's rescue is perhaps, the biggest ever undertaken by any military force to rescue a low-ranking soldier.

Heck, the US's last "big" rescue ops was in WW2..and it was to get a high ranking officer out.
