Black female POW

I was just thinking now that the young black female soldier
is in Germany.
Will The military fly out her parents like they did for Jessica Lynch?
Haven't heard anything on it.
IMHO I think they should she was wounded and a POW as well
Just Like Jessica.

i dont see why they wouldnt. the empty space to germany is there waiting to be filled. only reason they might not is if she isnt as badly wounded she could come home to America much sooner. no point in them flying out if she only going to be in germany for two days and then heading home.

To paraphrase Airhead, I'm sure she'll get a great job at a Motel 6.

Ummm....The US Army does not discriminate towards race, creed, color, or religion if that is what you are implying. This is 2003, not 1933.

I don't know Thrawn, her future might be brighter than that. Did you see the look of fear on her face in the video while she was a POW? Maybe she has a future in Hollywood movies as the scared black chick hostage. I haven't seen fear like that since Buckwheat thought he saw a ghost in a 1930s episode of Little Rascals.

I was in the Army  and yes they do discriminate!!
You ever hear of light green and dark green?
My point is i'm not hearing as much about this young lady as
The media darling Jessica lynch.
If I had to point the finger at someone it would be the media.

I'm glad you realize that it was the media and not the Army making all the hoopla over Jessica. Timing was key here. Jessica was rescued before the others. Also, victory had pretty much been guaranteed by the time the others were found. Still, there will likely be bucks offered for each of their stories.

What decade were you in the Army? Nowadays the Army is about as integrated and equal as it gets. Any discrimination is local, not institutional, and it is dealt with harshly.

Then point the your finger at the media, not the military. They flew her family to meet her? That's news to me.

"A corporate jet from the Pittsburgh-based H.J. Heinz Co. flew the family to Germany. They were to have one stopover in Washington, D.C."

Point the fingers in the right direction dude.

Not many of the 7 P.O.W.s got the press that Jessica did.  No need to single out the only black female of the bunch and insinuate that others were being racist.  To be honest, this thread is more rasist than the coverage (or lack thereof).

Actually this thread is more sexist than racist. Had Shoshana Johnson loked like Halle Berry and Jessica Lynch looked like Rosanna Barr- Arnold you'd see her as the featured pictorial in "Girls Of Iraqi Freedom", an upcomong Penthouse pictorial, instead of Jessica.

The media, as many have pointed out is actually the *source* of more racism than many other things.

In DK I get a kick outta one of our bigger newspapers; one day they run Ausländer Raus! like headlines, the next 'racist government policies means Ali Baba have to stay in Somailia where he will be diismembered by hungry dogs!'.

Sad.

First, the US army did NOT fly the Lynch family overseas. They actually made a statement that they would not because if they did it would set a precedent and thus they'd have to fly the families of every wounded soldier too.

The Lynch family was given the ticket and hotel accomodations by a benefactor (dont know if it was an individual or a company).

Second, its no surprise Jessica Lynch is the media attention. She's young, she's attractive, she got captured and later rescued in a spectacular fashion.

Thats media. When was the last time you saw a fat, old, wart-faced female narrating the news on CNN/FOX/MSNBC/Al Jazeera? I believe they call them "anchors" for a reason.

And you can bet that all the other POWS will be in the movie. Jessica's story cant really cover a 2 hour movie, especially since (thankfully) most others in the 507th survived and were rescued too.
