BF1942 clan recruiting pilots
« on: April 18, 2003, 09:49:52 AM »
Please excuse this post if it belongs someplace else (didn't see recruiting forum).

I'm a captain for a Battlefield1942 clan and we are searching for some superb pilots to join our clan and play in the TWL league(http://www.teamwarfare.com) and in the CAL league(http://www.caleague.com) with us.

The clan is called Operational Detachment Ronan (name merger of two clans that merged).  We are a group of mostly older guys (wide range 14-36), mostly married, mostly with kids, and mostly mature ( :) ) that like playing BF42 together.  We are a top 10 clan in BF so we are competitive in our leagues.  ATM we are in sore need of some quality pilots to replace some recently inactive pilots (RL issues).  Maintaining competitiveness in BF requires good pilots so your addition to the squad would put you in a very valued role for us.

Time committment is modest.  We have 2 league matches/week (Thursday and Sunday at 9:30 EST and 9 EST respectively), and usually scrimmages monday thru wednesday.  Of those scrims we like the guys to attend at least one.  That's 3 nights/week and scims/matches last approx 1 hr.

If you're unfamiliar with BF you can d/l the demo here: http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/battlefield1942/mp_demo_client_patch_1.1.zip.html

Our webpage (working on updating it) is here:
http://www.clan-ronan.com

If you are interested in joining or at least getting to know us and the clan better please post below or come visit our site.  Thanks. :)

wldthing, they've patched the game x4 so far so your problems with crashing to the desktop might have been solved.

And I do know where to look for pilots.  Our former head pilot was from AH and he was one of the elite pilots in the league.  He also told me he was cannon fodder in AH.  I also realize that BF is an arcade flight sim vs AH so the learning curve for a good AH pilot is approaching zero.  The final reason for starting with AH is the community is mostly comprised of mature gamers, which are much easier to get along with since we are mostly older guys.

I was hoping that some good AH pilot would be interested in BF b/c he/she could make a big splash in a game that's on the rise (likely to move to professional lvl in the next year based on conversations with CAL) and with very little required in the way of learning something new.  BF is also fun b/c it's very tactical, with combined arms (tanks, ships, subs, arty, etc) so it's a break for your current game and would allow you to play both.

Anyway, thanks for the warm reception. :)

Some are very much against EA here, so don't look for that warm of a reception from a few here.  You might want to try reposting this in either the O'Club or Squadron forums and make sure that you're wearing your flak helmet and vest because you're going to take some incoming whether you like it or not.

I'm a long way from being an EA fanboy.  They royally screwed over one of my previous games (global operations) and they are the kings of lame expansions, but I do enjoy BF and they've been good about patching it (very non-EA behavior).  However, thanks for the warning.  I post on the caleague forums and there's no flak like the flaming that goes on there....  do your worst (monty python quote) :)

Got kinda worried when I was thumbing through the "equipment pages" on the website and saw this:

We decided to forgo kilts for tatoos.  That shows the real dedication of the players to the clan (j/k).

Clan, aka squadron: group of people interested in the same game, like to play it competitively, and have a common msg board to post game related info, harass eachother, and go OT.  Sounds familiar? :)

Re: going pro and money....there's a competition (very poorly designed, but that's another story) with 50k in prizes.  I doubt we are very close to making money on the game, which doesn't bother me.  I'm in it for the chicks. :)
