5-15-03......how many of you will be taking the Red Pill?
« on: April 19, 2003, 09:22:58 PM »
I feel so blessed. :) Our theatre managed to reserve "The Matrix: Reloaded" so we will be the only one in our area to have it. Not only that but I get to build it and preview it, that means I get to sit in a theatre by myself (well maybe with a few friends) and see it to make sure it works, make sure the sound is right, make sure the splices are right...ect. Our theatre crew will be going all out, we're actually going to dress up like the charaters,  a few of us in black and...and few of us in suits. :)

Torque I'm sorry bud but we still use the old 38mm, 25/1s, platter wheel projectors. We don't have the money to upgrade our 5 projectors to digital. :)

Vort what I'm trying to say is, since I work at the theatre I have to build the movie and test it. Movies you see in most theatres run on huge platters of 38mm film, except for the new digital ones that use CDs. (really nice but REALLY expensive) When we get a movie it usually comes in 2 or 3 huge film cans. Each can usualy holds 3- reels of film. These reels of film must be joined 1 by 1 together in order to complete the movie. Where 2 film reels meet it's called a splice. Basicly after we "build" a movie we have to test run it 1 or 2 times to calibrate the sound so its not to loud or soft, we also have to make sure the splices are good and aligned ok. A bad splice will throw the projector out of frame....and in worse cases cause the projector to jam and catch the film on fire. Those 700watt bulbs are some mean little things.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I will get to watch the matrix for free.....2 or 3 times....in an empty theatre....before the public will get to see it. :)

My Dad was a member of the Projectionists Union in Chicago in the 40's. He used to tell me to watch for the little circle at the bottom of the film.. that was the cue to start the second projector, then a double cirlce to switch over. If done properly it was seamless.

I was tempted to ask if this was representative of a Canadian  here. A request for another to allow you to commit theft.

I do know that there are Canadians who are responsible so I'll refrain.

Nope that isn't, but taking the product of another produced for paid distribution and using it without permission and without license IS theft.

Is your post an indication that that is an accepted practice in Canada???    :p

I liked the Matrix, it was a good movie.  However, it seems so overrated.  People are treating it like the second coming of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and the Godfather all rolled into one, with a touch of Jaws, Terminator and Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure sprinkled in.
