planning a vacation to CA

Not sure where I'm going to go into. Either SF or LA. Depends on where the friend I want to meet up with is living at the time.

Any tips? I've never been to California, I want to get as much outta it as possible. The Cape is driving me nuts.

You wont see lots white people here in Hollywood. Hollywood is a diversed community (the Latinos are the majority of the population here, the rest are Asians, Middle Easterns, Eastern Europeans, and Russians). What's funny is the white people that I see in my area are bums who migrated here from mid-western United States and that's a very sad reality:( But the good news is this place is always summer like Hawaii:D

Sf and La are not that far away, do both.

If you really want info from a native cali drop me an e-mail and I will send you some pointers.

LOL La to SF took me 8 hours and my prettythang still hurt.

I'll leave that one alone Ike.

I used to drive from San Jose to Santa Cruz, which isn't Cancun by any means but a cool beach front town. Lots to see there, the boardwalk is boring, but they filmed "Lost Boys" there.

Then just go North to Capitola, party hard there as well, lotsa fun bars and live music. 10 miles North up the road on 101 is a place where you can pull off. There is a Cafe, and you'll see surfers and cars. There is a old pier of sorts and you can just go sit on the cliff and look at the sea and waves. Way worth it.

Did that trip dozens of times. Puts things in perspective, as that ocean is one huge beast.

You and Funked will probably have the most fun if you meet him in SanFran.  Plenty of places to cater to your "activities".  :D

BTW...Although you'll surely have the urge to buy a ticket into Burbank or LAX, I'd advise against it if you're headed to SanFran.  Oh, and PDX isn't close either!  :p

I just moved from the Aptos/Capitola area...for the geographicaly challenged...Capitola is SOUTH of Santa Cruz :)

One of the most awe inspiring coastlines in the world is located along Highway 1 south of Carmel. It's a long winedy 2 lane road that will take a whole day to take in but well worth it if you're not in a hurry to get somewhere.

IMO, the SF Bay area has a lot more to offer in the way of sightseeing. The Embarcadero, Ghirardelli Square, Alcatraz and Chinatown are just a few of the highlites that put San Francisco far above LA as a tourist destination...IMO.

If looking at freaky people are your bag then both cities are on the same level for that kind of entertainment.

The Monterey area is pretty damn cool. I lived there for a while in the early 90's. Lots of awesome outdoor stuff, and like mentioned earlier, the stretch of road south of Carmel is fantastic. From Monterey you're about 2 hours from San Fran if I remember correctly. I've been to LA several times. If you're looking for a vacation, I'd say stay away from LA.

I live in Southern California, and I would recommend the Monterey, SF area too. Go up highway 1 through Big Sur, check out the Point Lobos State park, get some killer sea food at Fishermans Warf...
