New Idea. What do you think
« on: April 21, 2003, 09:31:50 AM »
What if you could build a base, though troop drops.

First land a c47 to make the spot, then bring in troops, in (X) numbers to build Hangers and guns.
Perhaps while still in hangers before take off you designate what the troops will build, AA, FH, Vh etc.

Any thoughts?

No furious he has a point.

The front in WWII was a fluid thing.

It changed, fields were attacked, made useless, captured, rebuilt, & put back in action. Especially in the PTO!

Should be small fields only, no Vehicle Hanger. No supply by convoy, all would have to be airlifted.

Would let you put a fighter field wherever you need one.

Instead of full concrete runway have grass. Perhaps if enough supplies arrive put in a steel reinforced strip runway.

Fuel, ammo, troops would be limited at first.

IMO the idea has a lot of merit.
Esp for those who complain that fields are too far apart.

Last, it would be AWESOME for scenarios. Status of the forward fields would be dependant on flow of supplies etc.

Mining crystals would be fun too, if we get those cool little garbage truck harvester thingies. :D

I like the sound of that idea.  Don't know that it would ever be implemented in the MA, but perhaps in the "career path" option of AHII TOD

sounds like a decent idea...but the most a single drop could make should be set at a bare minimum...maybe 1 or 2 hangers set at one type a runway a tower and maybe a couple buildings and a map room for the town...

Very cool Idea!!!!!

I too would like to mine for crystals....I think though since the base does not have a VH and we cant airlift a GV in there it would take a long time to get a GV over to get the crystals....I think a modified LVT or Ostwind.

Crystals are cool crystals are cool....!!!!!!!!!

LOL

What's to stop the MA dweebs from making a field 5 miles outside of a stationary field in a NOE mission?

Unless there are very strict restriction and limitations implemented alongside, it's just asking for abuse.

how about this new base cost 1,500 perkies that can be pulled from multiple people?  MAybe more.

The high cost would somewhat limit how often they show up.  As well as only in high priority spots.

It could be made so you cant build one any farther than 1 grid from a friendly base.  That would keep them from being unrealisticaly deep into enemy territory.

How about something more limited? Let's look at 'field supplies'. You drop them on a damaged airfield, they help rebuild the field. So field supplies must include building materials, ammo, fuel, and ordnance. So let's expand the usage of field supplies.

1) Allow field supplies to be dropped places other than airfields. When dropped away from airfields, a field supply package remains for some specified amount of time if not used, and can be destroyed like other ground objects.

2) A field supply dump has a fixed number of supply units -- let's use 10 for a first approximation. Each supply unit can do one of three things: rearm a plane, refuel a plane, or repair a plane. For game-balance purposes, either field supply dumps should not resupply bombers, or the number of units of supplies necessary to resupply a bomber should be multiplied by the number of engines (i.e., a B-26 takes 2 units of supplies to rearm, a B-17 takes four).

3) A field supply dump creates an 'arming pad' around it until exhausted. When you land your plane, taxi within the limit of this 'arming pad', and stop, you get a pop-up window with the available units of supply and three checkboxes (one for each type of resupply) and an OK button. You pick what you want to get and click the OK button, and your plane gets reloaded.

What this does is allow people to run supplies forward and create 'ad-hoc' airfields to stage toward enemy bases, while making them keep running supplies in to keep it operational. Because you don't have a real airstrip, you're stuck with taking off on whatever ground surface exists, which makes it more difficult to land and take off again, but the flexibility of being able to put a 'rearm pad' pretty much anywhere outweighs that.
