I can think of at least one good reason to allow them.

I went to google.com and searched for "Germany abortions" and immediately got an answer.  Is there a really good reason in this day and age why people don't check google before asking these things?  Is it laziness?  Or lack of sophistication?

If it's the latter, I'm shocked that there are still people who don't understand how to use Google, the most popular and powerful and easy to use search engine on the internet.

Chairboy, I can use google just fine, but that would not have started a discussian here.

Besides, not everything you find on google is going to be true, not that every said here is either lol.

Until 1993 abortions in Germany within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy were not defined as illegitime.

In 1993 the highest court of Germany defined abortions as not legitime acts against the unborn lifes.
The german parliament had to re-define the paragraphs 218 and 219.
Since then abortions in Germany are officially not legitime but if there is an abortion within the first 12 weeks these are tolerated and payed by the german health-care-sytem.

So - if any woman in Germany wants to abort and her pregnancy is within the 12 week-time she can abort and has not to take financial risks.

See, that's a little unclear, because your original post was 'Abortions in Germany; Can you have one there?  Anyone know?'.  Doesn't look like you're trying to start any conversation, just asking a simple question.  I must be crazy, I would have thought that if you wanted to start a discussion about this, you would say something like 'What do y'all think about the fact that people can, in fact, have abortions in Germany?'

Thank you!  I have never been accused of good spelling!
