Axis VS. Allied Arena ?
« on: July 31, 2000, 05:43:00 PM »
Was wondering, The SEA arena is mostly dead of pilots. I was thinking that we could start a Axis Vs. Allied fighting in it when no one was useing it for a Speacle Event.

It would give us a Idea how many wanted to realy do this and maybe get our own Arena. At lest we could see how well it would go. Any takers ?

That would be nice once we have a planeset to support it. At least one allied tank and one axis bomber.

This is a repost of a repost, with slight modifications, of mine from the last thread that brought this subject up.  I'm still waiting to get a response to this.

We would need the following units to round out the available Allied and Axis forces:

Axis
Ju52 or Japanese markings on a C-47(Axis aerial troop transport)
German APC Halftrack (Axis ground based troop transport)
H8K2 "Emily" (Heavily armed, tough heavy bomber with a decent payload)
He177 (Another Axis heavy bomber, to counter the Allied B-17G and Lancaster)
Fw190F Series or Ju87G (Axis anti-tank fighter)
Fw190D-9 (High performance Axis fighter)
Ki84 (High performance Axis fighter)

Allies
T-34/76 (Allied tank comparable to the PnZ IV)

If we could get those, I would   LOVE to see a Axis vs. Allied environment.

We dont need all that right now. We dont have to go all out as far as tanks and Bombers. It dont have to be precise. Its the fighter problem its geting old fighting down other Alied Planes and such. Would be nice to see a two sided war for a change..Im haveing a hard time showing up for the Speacle Event stuff.

We had one going for a short time, Udie was running it.  With no icons.  We  had 20-30 folks in there in the US evenings.  Would also like to get this going again.  Limited icons if the CM priv. ever get coded to allow for that.

We could have a semi-historical arena every day and night it's not in use for snapshots and other events. Just ask CM's to set arena WHEN LEAVING from a special event to the following:

Bishops fields; allied A/C (+ all tracks)

Rooks fields; LW/IJN A/C (and B17/B26/C47 + all tracks))

knight fields and a1 disbled.

All other settings just like main.

Then we'd have it available every night.

I could see this taking over from the MA with the proper organisation,  still think a 2 sided war is what most people want. Great idea.

Unfortunately, at this time, the CM's cannot setup the arena like that. I'm sorry.

But we are running two "Snapshots" a week, which are historical based one life two sided axis vs allied battles. One is on Sunday afternoons, for the US and EURO contingent, and one is during the Pacific Rim timeframe (See Special Events Forum for more details).

In the very near future, we plan on starting an event (as yet unamed) that will run 3-4 hours, axis vs allied, with loose rules and multiple lives. This should be about as close as we can get, at this time, to what you are looking for.

So come out and support the Special Events.

One last thing. It is absolutely impossible to turn off Icons in the arena, its just not in the game.

This is an great idea... But without an arena there 24/7 that clearly says "Axis Vs Allies" or something similar it wont fly

It would perhaps work better if we setup an mailinglist or something to keep us who wants this in AH togheter...

what you guys should think about too is player attendance .. me thinks right now there's not enough player "mass" for 2 full blown arenas..

Damn.. you work for a Bank?? Is this a limitation of the arena mechanics (not as far as I'm aware) or a limitation imposed by HTC?

What part of the above formula is not do-able? What compromise could be implemented?

We'd like to use the Arena.. it's empty every night. Why not when snapshots are done configure it so it WILL be used?

Hangtime, all I can do is tell you what we (the CM group) are able too do.  And that is to provide special events similar to what you were asking for, so I took the opportunity to point you all too them.

So lighten up on me a little.

The CM's don't make policy at HTC, or start new "concept" arena's on a whim.

If you want a full time Axis vs Allied Arena, you must talk to Pyro. I can't even begin to comment on such a thing. Its not my place, or my wish, too do so.

Right now we have been asked to return the arena to its default configuration when not in use (which is the  polite way of saying "you will" do this).

Ahhhh.. thanks Verm; did not meant to give yah a hard time; I get curious when someone sez "No; we can do that" with out explaining WHY they can't do that.

Ok; it's a HTC policy issue.. not a technical difficulty.

Thanks.. and we appreciate what you guys do. Really.

HEY HTC!! Why can't we play in the SEA???
