Pangia progress (blazing )
« on: April 23, 2003, 10:05:03 AM »
well guys.. I've finally made it to the 75% mark w/ pangia aka Doodyville.

Hopefully I'll be releasing it to HTC this month (even though the snow has melted)

Here are a couple pics. If you have ideas or input.. now is the time.
p.s. I still need some good tiles. I dont like mine.

Don't you think it'd better if you put jpg imeges instead of bmp - it would not waist a lot of time to see the maps:D
For what do you make this map? MA? there is a lot of area without fields? Do you have factories? Did you make suppliers (traks, trains etc.)?
And the most important change this bmp to jpg!!!

People might not like it because it's asymmetrical.  Just a thought.

Who needs symethry? As for me the best MA terrain is baltic.
Becauce of this:[list=1]
  • There is no high altitudes just like in trinity 28K where did you see that in reality?
  • it have something looks like terrain of something real not strange symettrical forms
  • it is little - you do not have to fly 2 hours to get to HQ

Zones. All zone 1? If you're 75% done I'd expect to see something other than just zone 1.

as i said b4.. its AAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLMOST! finished. the terrain for south america, japan, phillipines and north africa have not been painted, north america and northern europe have no remote spawns. the goal was to let you guys get a glimps of the layout and make insightful comments about things.

yes there will be more than 1 zone ( point n click zone settings will be the last thing done)
yes jpegs are smaller than bmps ( i forgot there are still dialup users holding the rest of us back)

symethry is for sissys

if anyone has any custom field layouts, depots or garrisan stations, plane skins, snowy terrain tiles, snowbank fields, object reskins.. they would like to see i nthe map.. let me know.

Doody, snow tiles are (in my experience) just about the hardest to make. If you're going to try and create a whole set I wish you luck.

You might want to have a look at http://www.spaceimaging.com and have alook at the 2002 Winter Olympics pictures in the gallery. One of them isn't very useful because of the long shadows but the other two should be of at least some use in creating multiple snow tiles.

They look a bit too purple to me.. what do u guys think?? playable???

p.s. this is a luminitisty rip of nut'z most recent (that I know of) overlayed on the old pangia set to give it more contour. I like  the mall but the snow tile (it used to blend w/ grass and farm too, so I have to make some more mods.

I doctored the tiles up a bit, have a look. Also, a few more SS's and the current map status. I've started painting S. america (it's massive), North Africa is painted 100%.

food for thought.
The strat objective:
Each nation will have a regional home zone.( i.e US=knight,Euro=rook,S.Amer=bish) they will be larger than the invasion zones(north atlantic area, southern arabia,North africa). the zone master in each invasion zone will be a stand alone field owned by a non/bordering country, and be completely surrounded. It will have some spactacular scenery and action, as they will likely be the first fields captured.

 Example: A57_3(north atlantic)
a harbor 15miles S will have several VG spawn points in a city similiar to GV town from trinity. PT's will also spawn from various fields to allow the large oceans to be bypassed.
Ultimately, VOD players should enjoy taking the invasion zones, bombers will have a few precious minutes of milking, as the invasion zones are target rich. Tactical players will see all the buzzards @ invasion zone masters(IZM) and have legitimate chances to aviod overwheling numbers, everyone is happy (at the beginning)

Once the invasion zones are won,the map strat becomes more important.  It will be geared towards funneling traffic towards IZM from both sides. IT will take teamwork and organization to breach the inland defenses(I hope) but the back doors should allow small groups to plan some interesting tactics.
No mtns are higher than 12k, and most are below 7k.
Lots more strat in the map than listed. Lok at it and see what you think. suggestions welcome.

I hope Hitech is reading this so he can post it the minute i submit!! (wink)
