Nash:
I'm not sure if you were serious or not but I've never laughed as much at a thread as I have at the responses to your somewhat odd inquiry.

One night a wild young cowboy came in
Wild as the west Texas wind
Dashing and daring, a drink he was sharing
With wicked Feleena the girl that I loved.
So in anger I challenged his right for the love of this maiden
Down went his hand for the gun that he wore
My challenge was answered in less than a heartbeat
The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor.

My first taste of killing was at Vicksburg

I must have shot me a hundred men

I learned to make my living with a six-gun

I'm an outlaw now but I was a hero then

One dark morning, John stood up like a man
He took his shotgun with a steady hand
He went to the motel - broke the door in
He left two holes where two hearts had been

Was in the position to shoot twice, managed to get out of having to pull the trigger. I ended up going hand to hand both times, one guy had a knife the other a hammer.

The guy with the hammer was threatening both my partner and I,  my partner jumped on him as I was pulling the trigger. I had a few words with my partner later on. He was my best friend and I could have ended up shooting him.

The knife suspect was released by a judge who declared him incapable of standnig trial and he was "not a danger to himself or others" just because he tried to knife a cop. Same suspect was later shot and wounded 6 months later by another Officer who was jumped in a supposedly abandoned building. The guy did serious injury to a K9 that was sent in to get him later.

Seriously this is something not to be made light of, being in these situations isn't fun or funny, particularly at the time.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest was
The low spark of high-heeled boys...

I wish i could've done the guy in the suit.

Mav;
I dont suspect that anyone's making fun of situations like the one's you described.  I'm certainly not, but ya gotta admit that some of these are hilarious responses to a fairly odd question, kind of like the questions Peter Grave's asks in the Airplane The Movie.

Man Maverick. We musta had the same partner. It was 80 or 81, don't quite remember, in a 20' camper this guy is living in. Crazy as a bedbug, threatening to kill himself, locked in a closet. My partner and I take the door handle off so we can get inside. The door flies open and out walks a mountain. Waaay taller than me at 6'6" and carrying a knife, over hand and ready to do business. Whos in front of him...me. Of course I'm doing all the procedure stuff but I've got my .38 pointed at him. He ain't stopping. I begin to squeeze the trigger when boom! My partner jumps from behind the closet door, onto this guys back. Oh well. fights on!
