Windows 2000 compatibility mode
« on: April 24, 2003, 10:53:17 AM »
I keep hearing 2k has compatibility mode so it'll work like windows 95, like on XP.

And that it can be turned on in the compatibility tab in a sortcut's properties.

Now my question, where is it? Do I have to enable a process, or download something?

Hiya,
If i get you right you just highlight whatever you wanna compat-mode (eg: driver etc) and scroll to properties then click compat-mode wanted

I'm talking about programs, not hardware.

i booted to this mode once, it was either a startup option or an advanced function (the f8 options i think). It worked.

If you have service pack 2 or 3 loaded you may have this option.  Right click the shortcut to launch the program and pick properties.  You should see a tab that says compatibility just to the right of security.

hey I found it, not on windows update though, off of some forum.

Here's the instructions
------------------------------------
Installing on Win 2000

First you must update to Service Pack 2

Then:

Log on as Administrator.
Click Start , and then click Run .
In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK , where %SystemRoot% is the drive and folder in which Windows is installed:

regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll

(THIS IS A SINGLE COMMAND, NOT 2 SEPARATE ONES. TYPE IT ALL OUT AT ONCE.)
-----------------------------------

Don't worry, this won't make your comp melt on your desk.

Ben,

Make a short cut to the program's exe file. Right  click the short cut, and choose properties.

You should see a "compatablility" tab.

Need for Speed 5 runs better in Win98 mode on my system, for instance.
