To trim or not to trim, that is the question

>what did they send you? you a marketing reseacher/field tester for um or something?

been a x36 - x45 loyalist for bout 6 years now

A new version of the SST software. It's not available through the normal web page but go into their support forums and look in the Announcements area, the link to download it is posted there. They claim it fixes all the problems with Win2k/XP and finally allows 98 and ME users to actually program the thing. Dunno if it'll solve my disappearing/non calibrating stick problem but they claim it will sooooo...I'll giver 'er a shot. One more time.

Me too, I bought the first one about 5-6 years ago and broke it playin' AW. >8^) Several times in fact. Finally couldn't glue or solder it back together anymore. This is the third one I've had I think, I like having the rudder under my fingers, TM's rudders always turned me off, too light to stay still and the nice heavy one costs a fortune.  I don't deal with those twisty rudders either like the Wingman and stuff. If I can get it working again without formatting I'll be one happy camper, I wanna get back into AH and maybe try out Jaleco's version of that other sim just for the eye candy. Pretty sure all my ol' squaddies are still in AH so it should be fun.

Besides, I'm jonesin' for some virtual air combat!

Im not a fan of combat trim.

Here is a little tip that doesn't get into advanced trimming(if there is such a topic) for tight angle fighting.

Before entering into a fight(merge) trim the nose up where the indicator is at the top part of the L

E
L   (Indicator top part of the L)
V

If you let go of the stick in level flight with this trim setting, your nose should drift up.  Now your ready to turn and burn.

See if it helps in that situation.

Hi!

To me Combat Trim is usefull only for cruising or during B&Z a fast manual trim reset.

During slow T&B fight combat trim try to cache current flight envelope and cause   strange unwanted movments (imo).

Todate I have used combat trim with one part of my X45 throttle hat (little switch thingy)programmed to K (elevator nose up)

up >trim elev up
down > toggle combat trim.

This allows you to recover from compression or even raise the compression speed plus radically increase your instantanious  turn rate (with corresponding e loss and g gain) when used.

I am wary of using it to assist turn but its use to trim for compression ( and dive pull out) is very handy.

I am not in the habit of toggling combat trim for combat.......  I would probably forget to do it half the time.

does this vary plane to plane?

in the 109f while t&bing, I usually have it buried in the upper portion of the "E"

How bout aileron? do you trim in a turn advantage or just horizontal?
