WWII photo find
« on: April 26, 2003, 05:18:16 PM »
Friend of mine at work brought this photo book. Date of publish is not printed but photo credits were all not available at the time of publishing. Alot of the photos contained went on to be quite familier to this day.

I found some that haven't. Good stuff. Where the photo quality allowed I made them 1024's. One included isn't a "great" shot but seeing a photo of the aircraft carriers Wasp, Yorktown, Hornet, Hancock, Ticonderoga and Lexinton all in a row is well worth it.

The Pennsylvania broadside is worth the price of admission.

Enjoy.

BTW can anyone identify the plane in the Kamikaze photo ??
I noticed his flaps are extended.

Truely fantastic pictures
The line up of carriers should be a classic. As should the landing ops on the yorktown. Didnt realise they would stack up the planes at the front durring landing ops. I had assumed they would hanger them as they come in.

Have three more, a shot of 6 round salvo by Big Mo, the "classic" Dauntless pic and good shot of the Wasp.

But my site has a "problem" and I can't upload. Get them up as soon as they fix it..

Service is back up. Big Mo, the Wasp, night time 14" gun shot and the classic SBD shot all in 1024.

Enjoy

Great picks! I remember my Dad telling me about pulling into Tokyo bay and seeing the rows of Ships moored after the signing of the terms.. He got all giddy talking about being next to the USS Boxer... Somewhere I have some pictures of Tokyo bay and some of Hiroshima.. Would be nice to have time to scan them someday and post them...But we can't upload pics anymore Doh!!
Thanks for taking the time to postem Poop!!

you have to click on nopoops link in the first post to view the website with the pictures.

oh yeah and the kamikaze photo, it doesnt even have any ord strapped beneath it.  that would be fun in AH, grab a b-17 with no ord, dive into the nme carrier. 33 tons of metal going splat should have a significant effect

I LOVE the shot of the 'blackjack' B-17 underwater. Sadly the .jpg artifacts become ugly at 1024, I guess compression is set too high or it is upscaled from a lower resolution pic...

Does anyone know the story behind this aircraft? And where does it lie on the seabed?

Regards,

hogenbor, flying alone and inefficient

Hogenbor  Black Jack is blown up from a smaller pic. Even the small pic wasn't that good. Just had too though. Do a search for Pacific wrecks. I've been so many places looking for pics, I don't save addresses once I've got the photo's I want.

All of the underwater photos I've come across are small, and alot of times poor resolution. But what can ya do. Poor rez is all I can find.
