I have a couple suggestions
« on: April 29, 2003, 03:53:22 PM »
Suggestion #1 -- As the number of fighter hangars at a base get taken down, the frequency of planes upping goes down as well.  It is frustrating to have a base **almost** down but still have droves of fighters upping.  There should be some reward for the base being gradually worn-down.

Suggestion #2 -- Field supplies in different categories.  For example -- if troops are needed on a newly captured front-line base, then bring 'troop supplies' or something.

Suggestion #3 -- if canopy gets hit, then glass shows holes (view is [partially] obstructed).  I like the 'wounded pilot' (well, dont really 'like' it but I like that 'aspect' of the gameplay) but I think that the canopy should show signs of damage, just like the missing control surfaces after wing damage.

Suggestion #4 -- a bomber gunship, like the  B-25 Mitchell with 11 forward-firing 0.50cal MG's -- or something to that effect.

Suggestion #5 -- late-war radar jamming techniques and counter-measures (like Window or something similar).

There may be valid arguments against these suggestions that I am unaware of.  I am relatively new to the game and these are just a few things that came to mind.

Regards,

1.  Porking the fuel serves the same purpose.  It is gamey as hell, but it keeps people from taking off (trust me on this).

2.  Field supplies will bring everything closer to 'up' status on an airfield.

3.  Hopefully a more detailed damage model is in the works for AH2.0, I agree it would be nice to have bullet holes in the canopy and skin :).  Not sure how 'feasible' it is from a FPS point of view though.. if you had to render the bullet holes for every plane in sight it might bog down even the best systems.

4.  B-26, A-20... already in the game.  A B-25 with the big cannon might be cool.

5.  Not really nescesary in my opinion, radar is how most people 'find a fight', when they are looking to fight at all, which is a rare enough occurance.  Be a shame to stop the 4 people that actually want to fight from fighting by making it even easier to shut down the radar.

Wow, urchin -- you systematically shot down all my suggestions...

I understand the field supplies and how they work.  What I am suggesting is specific supplies for a specific purpose.  Let me give an example.  The Rooks capture a Knight front-line base.  During the battle, the troop barracks were destroyed.  Now this base is rendered useless for capturing other bases in Knight territory until troops come up.  (I know the ultimate answer to this is 'dont kill the troops', but that's a different issue -- lol)  Being the 'team-player' that I am, I start running field supplies in an M3 from the nearest base with supplies.  5 sorties and 45 minutes later, troops come up at the base.  If myself and another teammate would have just brought 'troop supplies' the first time, then we could have had troops up sooner.  Maybe I'm just whining -- I dunno.

Another response I have is about the gunships.  I know the A20 and the B26 are included.  What I am suggesting is a true ground attack 'gunship'.  It could even be a loadout on one of the existing bombers.  I was actually thinking of the C47 'puff the magic dragon' but after some research I learned that that plane did not come around until well after WWII.  But I read about the Mitchell and the 11 50cal MG's and that sounds pretty cool.  I'm sure there are 'gunships' from other countries as well.

I guess it's hard for me to find suggestions for a game that, in my opinion, is pretty well thought out to begin with!!  :)

even 11 .50 cals won't do crap, or shouldn't do anything, to German tanks.

A nice 75mm (if you could aim it) would do nicely.

I suspect that Cantrell's suggestion referred to showing hit marks on your aircraft, not showing them on other aircraft -- you're rarely going to be close enough to another plane for long enough to notice where the hit marks are on other planes. Dynamix's 'Aces of the Pacific' showed bullet holes on your canopy glass, and that''s an archaic flight sim by today's standards; it should be fairly easy to slap an appropriately-sized bitmap of a hit mark onto the appropriate part of the plane for you to see when you look that direction.

In a similar vein, drawing oil splashes on the canopy when you take oil hits should also be possible -- make getting back damaged a little more realistically difficult...

Yes, Shiva -- that  is in fact what I meant -- and the oil splatter sounds cool, too.  I guess I got  too bogged down in the 'FPS' talk (I don't know what FPS is) to grasp that the comment was not aligned with what I was suggesting.

Cantrell,

Your suggestions 1 and 3 both are good, so don't feel bad.  Urchin is right, but eventually the damage models for everything will become more realistic.

I see you've only made 5 posts; please continue to post your ideas.

Suggestion # 6: Make planes repairable, so you can keep on increasing your kill count

Do any of the HTC folks read this stuff??  Or, is this just a forum for our own discussion??  Just curious...

You're kidding, right?  Why would the FBI and CIA read this stuff??  Is there really a problem with the psych profile of the person that plays this game (or the psych profile of the person that writes on this forum)??  Surely you jest...

I honestly enjoy this game and have reached a certain level of maturity in life such that I think I can avoid spewing forth garbage in this forum.  But thanks for the heads up!

I'm glad HTC peruses these suggestions.  Customer feedback is the key to any successful business.

Just kidding.  At least I hope I was.

In my experience, HTC has been extremely responsive to customer feedback.  I rate them "two thumbs up" in customer service.

Some people have been complaining recently that HTC hasn't been letting us know more about what's going on with AH2, and hasn't provided screenshots of it.  I say give them a break; they must be working really hard to get AH2 out by the 3rd quarter of this year.

HTC reads alot of this stuff but Im sure they have plans of thier own, and unless something really grabs them by the beard, they
just move on.
the FBI and CIA probalby read alot of it, checking for perverts.:p
And you will find, that the majority of responses are negative,
especially to suggestions, simply because there are 3 kinds of people who read the bbs.
people who agree (usually dont answer
  People who dont care(never answer)
people who dont like the idea or like anybody with any ideas or suggestions(always answer)
Its best to keep things to 1 suggestion at a time, with a short, to the point argument for your suggestion.  This way if HTC does happen to read this, they will not be overwelmed with verbage and maybe 1 out of a 1000 ideas may stick in HTC think tank an be implemented at a later date

Windscreen damage. I've suggested this before. Its in Janes WWII makes it hard/realistic to see. I like the effect.

Just the fact that you would ask this question tells me you haven't been here long... ;)
