Q.  Does the AI in single player actually respond to requests (like for a medic or reinforcements, etc) cos I havn't had a medic show up on demand yet?

A. No, they are a joke, dont bother go right to multiplayer.

Q.  Is the planes-flying-backwards-on-a-closed-throttle bug fixed in a patch or is that a local config issue?

A.  never heard of that.

Q.  And how on earth do ya look around in a plane?

A.  There are few keys. Follow, pan head left and right, and view from the front of the plane so you can see behind you.

Q.  Is there any way to have the map display show the location of rearm / medical stations?

A.  You can download player altered maps that show locations of ammo boxes ect.

The AI in the single-player part of BF 1942 sucks and doesn't respond to any of the commands and usually follow invisible waypoints with no deviations.  The expansion pack, Road To Rome is an entirely different matter with drastically improved AI that actually makes the single-player portion worth playing.  I don't know though if the expansion pack also improves the AI in the main BF 1942 single-player game or if the AI improvement is just in the Road to Rome add-on.

Side question....

Are there French in the game?  One of my favorite things about WW2OL is the ability to shoot frenchies :D

Udee,

To kill Frenchies, you have to buy the "Road to Rome" expansion pack. You might as well get both.
