ASUS A7N8X ... need some help
« on: May 02, 2003, 04:54:43 PM »
I have a little problem with my new motherboard and i would like to ask you for some help.

Configuration
AMD 2800+
2x512 MB RAM 333mHz / PC2700
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe rev. 1.06
Bios rel. 1003
ATI 9700 PRO
Windows XP Professional

Problem Describtion
After having installed WIN XP and set up all actual Drivers and Bios i have some CTD's after beeing in AH for about 5-7 minutes. Sometimes it kicks me out to WIndows Desktop and sometimes it's rebotting or even is hanging in the game itself.

All this happens when i set my CPU frequency to 166 with 12.5 als multiplicator.

The prob can be solved by setting the CPU frequency to 133. But then i run like a AMD 2200, what cant be the goal by haing a AMD 2800.

I've read much about that issue in http://www.nforcershq.com/.

Does anyone have a idea whats wrong here ?

Thanks for help

I had the same problem, and found out that my CPU temperature was spiking in AH because of the load.

Get a program that shows your CPU temp and leave it running, then go into AH for a minute.  When you exit, watch that temperature.  Remember, it can raise or drop in seconds, so just booting to see what your BIOS reports might not be fast enough.

...oh, and I fixed it by sanding the heatsink on my fan and re-applying thermal grease correctly (instead of slathering it on).

Since you said your temps where ok online earlier. Here is what I would try. Download memtest and run it. http://www.webattack.com/get/memtest86.shtml

I would also try running your pc with one stick of ram at a time.

Also go to system properties the advanced tab, start up and recovery, settings and uncheck automatically restart. Next time it happens you will get a stop code. Post the code back here or do a google search for an explanation.

What brand of ram are you using?

your computer is way too fast for AH

ship it to me at once and I'll replace it with a PIII 500mhz, Diamond 16mb vcard WITH 3d Voodoo loop through

I'll even pay shipping :)

Asetek has made a cool and cheap little package for watercooling, the waterchill. If you have a heat problem - and hate the noise of the fans waste no time. ;)

I was watercooling my XP2200+ for a while.  It was great, until the...  containment failure.  There was some unpleasantness, I'd rather not go into details.
