Finally! I had earned enough perks to fly the 262. Even before it came out I was one that hunted the buffs. Fly long and high. And now I had access to an aircraft that made this type of mission a real blast. Adrenaline was different too, because now (to me anyway) there was some real risk! This plane was “expensive”! Only to be lost due to “Lost Host Connect”! I know people cheat. I know they Alt F4 etc etc. But is there no way for the software to determine when this happens for real??? It took me forever to earn that many points. And because I travel work wise, there are long periods I don’t even get on.

I’m not going to go on and on. But I would really be interested in finding a solution to this kind of problem.

Someone mentioned the fact that someone could just unplug their modem etc. But there has got to be some kind of way to figure this out. I wasn’t even near anyone when it happened to me. Good guys or bad. Of course you may not sympathize if you could take or leave the 262. But what of us who really like it and have earned it only to loose it via Lost host etc. This is true for any perked plane.

But for now I've choses to look at it as an inflight "stroke" or heart attack

This happens to all of us, so i understand your pain.

Like the man said, consider it a dual compressor stall and you had to bail out er something.

I dont think this problem has an easy solution...

It likely would be possible for the software to tell the difference between a real host disconnection and someone Alt-F4'ing out of the game. What it wouldnt be able to tell is the difference between a lost connection to host and someone pulling the cable from the back of their computer, or turning off their modem, or turning off their computer.

So if the software could detect alt-f4ing as a cause of disco, then it should keep the perks intact for anything OTHER than alt-f4. It will keep people happy.

People can still disco themselves with the telephone, telephone wire, alt-tabbing out and disconnecting their dial-up, power off the PC...

Alt-f4 is only a small piece of the problem.

You'd be amazed how creative people can be when they want to cheat at a game.

It's a bugger when that happens, but perhaps as a previous post suggested, and unfortunately put it down to a a/c failure.

It would be a temptation for some just to hit the reset on the cable modem if discoes didn't lead to perk loss..

Don,t take perk points away for any disco reason.

After a disco, have the systym not allow a player to earn perks in any catagorie for 24 hours.

Still can fly and record kills and ranking points, but no perks.

I've lost 200 perkies to CTD's in the last couple of days while flying 262's.

Last monday just prior to the 108 patch 2 release HT came in the MA and stated that in 20-30 mins MA would be reset and patch 2 would be effective.

I was airborne in a 190 and thought ok better time this and land in time. I know there were also 262's over a1 a44 area. After 10 mins HT states that server would be reset any moment now. I tried to make it to a1 but didn't manage to before "lost host connection" (way before 20 minutes were past, more like 11 mins to me)

Now for me this wasn't a problem I wasn't in a expensive perk ride that moment. But for the 262's airborne at that moment I can imagine that it was a real problem (it takes longer to land one of these buggers anyway because it's hard to bleed E in them).

I'm not sure whether you lose perks to a forced server reset, but my guess is that you do. If so I would like to ask HT staff to take that into account and time the server reset a bit more carefull.

Apar you don't lose your perks when HTC reset their servers. Imagine every time the war was won, everyone lost their perk rides, would be kinda silly yes?

Alt-F4's generate a message which windows sends to the application to terminate it I think but like has be said poweroff, modem cable out, ISP down how you going to know. I can just see the dweebs flying round in their 262's with their special little instakillmodem switch wired up to their joystick

Um but what about this, how about no loss of perk points if there are no enemies within say 10k of your position. I've lost 2 nice perk rides this tour through disco, and each time I was in a sector by myself grabbin alt.

My reasoning is that given that all the perk rides bar the F4UC can outrun almost all other cons unless the con is in visual range and has an enormous alt advantage, then the anti-realism I wanna save my perk points rather then fight dweebs would'nt be able to disco and then normal guys with dialups could reup that lost to real disco perk plane.

My English teacher would just kick her own bellybutton if she saw the above paragraph too, sorry grammah

Doesn't seem fair to me, with 262's speed (and alt people fly them at) 10k is made very easily after being engaged.

Just an idea, maybe a silly one but here goes. If a pilot was to record his flight in a perk plane, then if there were a disco, he could submit the film to HTC or some1 appointed by HTC (perhaps the MA monitors).

If the film evidences that fact that the pilot was in no immediate danger then the perkies could be restored. Or if there's a 190 diving hard on his 6 then no perkies returned, or if its a little bit iffy then half could be returned. People are not going to submit films where they are obviously deep in it and intentionally discoing. I know this would take a bit of work on HTCs part. The pilot would have to accept prior to submitting the film that the adjudicators decision would be final and that no further correspondence would be entertained.

This doesn't solve the problem, but it would help.

BTW another suggestion, hold onto your perkies until 1.08 lockup and CTD bugs have been ironed out!

Exactly Apar, if you can get 10k away from a enemy in a tempest, 262, F4U-4 theres no way they were going to catch you anyway, which means no reason to disco. If you 10k from an enemy con why would you need to disco.

Err actually just thought of something, 10k away and at least 1/4 of main tank left, have to stop people discoing because of bingo fuel, err and no damage either.
