Hehe, Socrates would go to symposiums (drinking parties) and drink the other Greek philosophers under the table. He'd be the last man standing, and often go walking about looking at the stars. Some scholars even believe Socrates was such a superman, that he was possibly a character made up by Plato as a symbol of all that is good about man.

He knew about the hemlock, and drank it anyway, rather than recant his words and teachings. I believe he ordered it up for himself...so it was not an assasination in any way. Socrates other option was to go in exile.
