What is it with Democrats?
« on: May 07, 2003, 08:45:58 AM »
I'm used to hearing all the under handed things the Demos in Congress/Senate do that I guess I forgot we have them locally.

Yesterday we had our City Primary. The main vote was for Mayor. Our current Mayor has been in office for over 20 years so this was to be a major election for us.

The favorite was a Repub who has been working with the current Mayor for years and has been a politician himself for many years.

The Demos knew they had no chance to beat the favorite so they had all their people register as Repub  to vote for the the only candidate they had a chance to beat.

Areas that are known to be 90% Demo voted 95% Repub AND they voted for the lesser Repub.

I guess I shouldn't be so suprised that the Demos would do something like this.

I've always voted for the candidate who I thought was the best for the job and really didn't care what party he/she was but after yesterday I will NEVER vote for another Demo for ANY office.

They have shown themselfs to be liars AND Cowards.

The end will still be the same for the Demos. They will lose!!

Sorry just venting here!

This is a standard political tactic for both parties.  Any mayor who has been in office 20 years is going to have a lot of friends in low places to organize the voters.

Sorry I didn't explain better.

The current mayor is leaving office and was grooming the favorite Repub to take his place. If the current mayor wanted to stay he would win hands down.

If I've undertood you elect a college who will elect the mayor ? (what we call " democratie indirecte" )

It's done the same no matter what the office is. Normally only the Presidential election gets  the media coverage.

Primary is held so each party can vote who they want to represent them in each office in the main election.

Supposed to be Demos votes for Demo and Repub votes for Repub and so on.

Well  one party should have no influence on any other party in the primary.

In this case since the Demos already knew who was going to win on their side(only 2 Demos running for mayor and 1 only ran as a joke) so they decided to vote as Repubs to cause problems.

Also the only time the Electorial College is used is in the Presidental election.(as far as I know) All other elections are done by actual votes of the people.

I agree they kinda cheated ...

They exploited a flaw in the system both party can use ...

Except changing the system to prevent such event I see no solution (if I've undertood clearly)

It should be like it is in AH.  If you switch countries(parties), you can't switch again for 24 hours(1 year).  This would keep idiots from switching party, voting in the other's primary, then switching back to vote in the election. ;)

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some... farcical aquatic ceremony!
You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!!
I mean, if I went 'round, saying I was an emperor, just because some moistened bink had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Thankfully in California political parties are banned in local elections.

Not neccessarily a personal attack, more a statement of fact. I'm sure even Saint George of the Bush has lied at some point in his life and probably very recently.

Besides Bush doesn't read this board.
War! Never been so much fun. War! Never been so much fun! Go to your brother, Kill him with your gun, Leave him lying in his uniform, Dying in the sun.
