frustration and perspective
« on: May 07, 2003, 10:51:26 AM »
I just read a post about another vet leaving. I am going to paste a post from one of my squaddies, who was responding to quite a bit of flaming on our squad site. His post cleared our brains like a good whack on the head:
My fellow squadies, After reading Dratly's last post I was likened to give my own view. AH ,like Aw ,is just a game, very good in fact . How can I say? It allows us to think and react to situations and moments we couldn't possible be involved in real life (ok , there are a small % that have) and survived to tell the tales . NO one likes to die , even in a cyber word and it gets frustrating or exhilerating , whatever the case may be . In the world of AH there is a ladder to be climbed. Where we are on that ladder is what we want to put into the game . To some people AH ,like AW , is basically all there is in life . Most of us have a job in life to carry out and look to AH as a release of sorts. Some people have a natural ability for this game and some don't, some this game is easy and to most it is work to be at the level they want to be . Frustration is a big part of this game too and it can be overwhelming , as a lot of our post do prove. The point
of this is to remind you it IS a game and there is a purpose behind
it!. From our ace= GA to me , the bottom feeder , we all feel we are better than we are but there is always some one better than you! Period . I know where I am in the ladder and its ok for now . I don't like it but it doesn't REALLY matter. I fly to have fun and when the fun stops ,I leave ,simple as that! I look for #'s for protection but my hopeless abandon for the furball gets me killed,,,,a lot ! I don't find AH as much fun as AW but its the best we have ,so I do the best I can while I am up ,mostly to pad peoples scores . But thats where I am ! Where are you? Have fun my friends ,but don't hurt youselves over a game! 'nuff said, BARRE

"I don't find AH as much fun as AW but its the best we have."

You know, that reminds me of something I realized the other day, after achieving a positive k/d ratio for the 4th or 5th month in a row (maybe more, I'm too lazy to go check).  During the years I was on Air Warrior For Windows, Air Warrior II, and Air Warrior III, I never managed to get more kills that I got killed.  But, in Aces High, I've managed to do it in 3 or 4 different planes for months at a time.  The first one was the FW190A8 with four 20mms - just wade in like the juggernaut it is and embrace every HO opportunity that was available.  The second plane I did it in was the FM2 - to every thing turn, turn, turn, there is a reason, turn, turn, turn.  Then I did it in the P-51D - will and grace; and most recently the Yak9U - one shot, one kill.

Maybe this tour I'll see what I can do in the 109 line-up.

I started flying AW back in 1995-1996... I've been away from WWII Flight Sims for a few years now....but I think Aces High is great. I've been with AH for 8 months now. I personally believe AH is better then AW3. It has way more to offer. The VOX is way better in AH and my squadmates are great . Sometimes people think the grass is greener on the other side.
